The content of this book is superb, an incredibly varied selection from brilliant composers and good value for money! A veritable treasure-trove of music to give hours of pleasure on the piano....BUT....the book itself, being A4 size and quite thick is impossible to keep open, which makes reading the music very difficult when one's piano has no brackets on the music stand! So....I have totally dismantled the book, page by page, and put it into a ring-binder which works perfectly! Producing this music book with a spiral back would be a huge plus!!

I just bought this book and it is absolutely magnificent. Piano, Vocals and Guitar Chords (also vital for us piano players wanting to analyse the chord structure and progressions).

But I felt compelled to write a review because "budding piano player" stated in his review that this book is impossible to keep open at the piano - and that nearly deterred me from buying it. However, this is not what I have found. Whether "budding piano player" is plain wrong, or the publisher has addressed the issue, this book, though very thick, is exquisitely bound and opens completely flat - and stays open - without any issue. This is a very pleasant surprise as I was expecting difficulty here. In summary, this book opens easily, had a loosely threaded binding and stays open. There is no issue at all, whether on the first or last piece, or in the middle of the book (I'm just an ordinary amateur pianist and have no vested interest in saying this!!)

Having previously purchased a popular song book which had hardly any songs I recognised this book was the opposite. Great classifications. Does not fold open that easily and I might well strip it and put it in a binder.

Contains 100 excellent songs... A few obvious mistakes in the printed chords can be found, eg. "C" instead of "Cm" and similar typos, which the music editors at Hal Leonard really should have paid more attention to, but overall the presentation is good, usually including the full written intro, and nice clear spacious layout of the staves. All songs use an identical music font throughout the book, which looks consistent and neat, rather than a facsimile of the original source published music engraving for each song as with some older (perhaps more authentic, less edited) books. Also in the same series as this title are The Great American Songbook: The Singers: Music and Lyrics for 100 Standards from the Golden Age of American Song and ...Read more ›

Those wonderful composers created some brilliant music. I have had mant hours trying to recreate their music but, struggling with the complex chords. Nevertheless, I will recommend this book for the person whom appreciates MUSIC in it's finest guise.
