Series: Elements #4
Author: Brittainy C. Cherry
Main characters: Lucille Palmer, free-spirited florist trying to keep her family together. Graham Russell, successful yet socially inept author, about to crash into Lucy’s world.
Plot: When Lucy’s mother died, she told her to look after her sisters Mari and Lyric. Lucy took the request to heart and nursed her sister Mari back to health following a long illness and continued to reach out to Lyric, despite Lyric’s disdain for her and her cold nature. Despite a turbulent couple of years, Lucy and Mari are a good team and life finds some degree of normality. Until she meets Graham.
Graham Russell is a successful author. He enjoys a comfortable life without excessive emotions. His relationship with his wife is convenient and business-like. When she ups and leaves, Graham is left with a mountain of responsibility and a whole lot of emotions he isn’t able to cope with. His chance meeting with Lucy leads to a whole set of complications he could never have foreseen. His heart is locked up tight but Lucy may be the only one with the key…
Why you should read it: Oh my goodness. If my blurb above was a bit vague, it’s because I didn’t want to spoil anything for you. This story is so good and packed full of emotion and insight that I couldn’t really do it justice in the plot summary. How I loved these complex and spirited characters. Lucy is a saint! A good person through and through who puts up with a lot of crap from others because she loves them. Graham. Graham is tough – almost robotic when we first meet him. His reasons are more than valid and having his point of view really helps the reader understand his motivations and his experiences. His story is a sad one, but the possibility for a happier future keeps you rooting for him throughout.
What you may not like: There are some nasty characters in this book! Like, really horrible! I felt indignant on Lucy’s behalf. She shows kindness and gets kicked in the teeth repeatedly. I wanted to throw my kindle at the wall at times, but thankfully Brittainy doesn’t drag out the hard times. She always gives her characters some trials before getting to the ‘good stuff’.
Rating: 5/5 for a very sensitive, heart wrenching and intelligent read. I loved it and it made me want to punch somebody and hug somebody in equal measure! And my God, that cover *bites fist.*
This is the fourth and final book in the elements series, each one a standalone so they can be read separately.
Lucille Palmer is one of life's happy caring people, when her mother died she felt compelled to take care of her two sisters Lyric and Mari. That is just the sort of person she is, loving and seeing the good in everyone and all situations. When Mari took ill Lucille or Lucy as she prefers to be called, took care of her and nursed her back to health, thus growing very close as sisters, they were inseparable. As much as she tries to reach out to Lyric she distances herself from Lucy and Mari but apart from that life is good and she finds herself happy with her lot - that is until she meets Graham Russel.
Graham is a cold and distant man, emotions play no part in his life, he is a very successful writer and that is all he needs for now. All his emotions go into his books, and the relationship he shares with his wife is for convenience and business only. When she ups and leaves one day she also leaves behind a mountain of problems that Graham has to deal with and he's not coping too well - and then he meets Lucy purely by chance. Is this the woman that can unlock the heart that is behind a cage. Can Lucy heal this man or is she too full on for graham to deal with ?
The characters were just marvellous to read, Brittainy has the magical touch when it comes to writing, her words are superb, poetic, beautiful and her writing stunning in all aspects; in one word this book is perfection.
If I was asked to pick which of these four books I loved the best - I really don't think I can because they are all excellent. The feels, the journey that the particular book takes us on, and what we learn from each book is a wonder to behold and one I cherish.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this series of books, in fact you are missing out on a beautiful thing not picking up this whole series that will consume your time well and remain in your heart forever more !!!!
as i sat waiting patiently for 12am (uk time) for my pre order to come on my kindle i thought i knew this was going to be a good book. wow how wrong was i!..
this book and the words good book dont fit into the same category you want to know why right? read the book yourself!
brittainy cherry i want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for producing another breathtakingly beautiful story, thank you also to staci who held your hand when you thought about giving up, without you there wouldnt be a book so i wanted to thank you too!
I laughed and I cried. I cried a lot actually- Brittainy Cherry almost broke my face. I swooned and I sighed and I totally fell in love with a girl who smiles all the time. She is sometimes awkward, she talks too much, wears the strangest clothes and has flowers in her hair; I want to be Lucy Palmer when I grow up. What an outstanding character. She is awesome. Beautiful in mind, body and soul. I even want to marry her or have her as my best friend or sister forever. I want to wander Monet's gardens with her. I want to be the pea to her pod. Damn I'm smitten.
And Graham Cracker, he has a black soul with no heart and no sunshine in his life and then the clouds part and here comes the sun with smiles and flowers and a big heart.
I'm not even telling you anything about the story, I don't need to. I knew nothing about it before I clicked it, I just knew from the other books I've read by Brittainy that it would not disappoint me. I think this is her best book yet.
An absolutely must read. If this isn't in my top 10 for the year, I'll eat my hat.
