An instant guilty pleasure
on 25 August 2013
I need to state first off that I can't even count the number of times I found myself thinking, 'This is ludicrously implausible.' There were just so many instances where I thought, surely the police would care more about this, or she'd be excused from school after going through such a traumatic experience, or wow this is really speeding its way through the story, or....
But you know what? Forget all that, because I couldn't put it down. I don't even know what it was that kept me reading. Maybe it's simply that it was just so FUN! The ludicrous implausibility was somehow charming and adorable, and then the author would throw in a scene that was genuinely creepy, and I was right there wondering what on earth was going on - I had to know. And when it all finished, I was straight on Amazon buying all 4 sequels. Also, I'll admit, I loved the characters. There was something really endearing about them. I like the narrator. I like Theo. I even like Alex. And of course I like Henry. (Just what is his deal, anyway? I look forward to finding out.)
So it's not the most perfect thing I've ever read, hence missing that fifth star - but I seriously enjoyed this, all the same, and I look forward to the next chapter!
