Ty Power turns in an impressive collection of reviews for the horror genre
My initial thoughts on this were a little mixed. While Power's writing is fluid and his reviews to the point, and on occasion amusing, there seemed to be no natural flow to the book. The reviews are not, it seems in date order or alphabetical. They appear to be in the order that he wrote them for the website he reviews for.
But then, as I ploughed through the book, I realised how utterly brilliant this was. Instead of it being a guide book for you to find a film and check out the review, it becomes a book you can actually read cover to cover. As I read through Power's reviews I happened across quite a few films I'd not heard of before and, even on the occasion he liked/didn't like these movies, my interest was piqued enough to warrant me to search the films out.
It would still have been handy to have a list at the back of the book in alphabetical order; director order; year order - with links that allowed you to click straight to the review.
Another issue was that the layout looks a little clumsy on occasion. I was reading on an iPad Air, and it certainly looked better when reading horizontally/picture rather than vertically/portrait.
All in all an enjoyable book that will help you discover some of the smaller horror movies, as well as giving you Power's thought on some of the more well known ones.
