About the Author
Who doesn't love a cracking crime story, full of twists? I'm British crime thriller writer A.A. Abbott - known to friends as Helen - and I believe a good read is one of life's greatest pleasures. I write fast-paced suspense thrillers set in the British cities of London and Birmingham. My latest books, the Trail series, follow the fortunes of two families running a vodka business - and what happens when they fall out with a London gangster. The Bride's Trail leads from London to the secret tunnels below Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. The trail continues with a kidnap in the former Soviet Union in The Vodka Trail, an ill-starred venture with a marijuana farmer in The Grass Trail and a killer on the loose in The Revenge Trail. Like 10% of us, many of my family are dyslexic. While I'm not, I want my books to be enjoyed by readers with dyslexia and visual impairment too. That's why I publish my thrillers in a LARGE PRINT dyslexia-friendly edition as well as the standard paperback and Kindle versions. Don't forget, you can also adjust the font on your Kindle to suit your needs. I like speaking to book groups, business networks and social circles, and reading my thrillers and short stories at live fiction events. If you're a book blogger, litfest organiser, reviewer or simply adore books, I'd love to hear from you. I'm a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors, Bristol Fiction Writers' Group, and Birmingham's New Street Authors. If you haven’t invested in the Trail series by now then you really truly should. I have once again had a heap of fun reading, I loved returning to the Characters that I came to adore in previous books, and I really enjoyed the new plotline.
The Author really does have a talent for snagging your attention so fast and firmly that you forget what you’re meant to be doing! That’s the third time now I have devoured her book in one sitting, and I’m not even ashamed.
In fact, I will be very happily diving straight into the follow up! These books could easily work as standalone novels, but I really recommend starting from book one and working through to better understand the characters.
I adore the fact that this swaps between perspectives, it gives it that little bit more tension and knowing both perspectives gives the story much more entertainment value! It’s intriguing to know the other persons thoughts and reasons and find that you kind of sympathise with the person you expect to be ‘The Bad Guy’
If you enjoy a Thriller that will keep you guessing, be thoroughly entertaining and leave you wanting just that bit more, then these are perfect!
Kat is back to working as a croupier having moved to Birmingham to live with her brother, Erik. Erik is trying to develop a cancer cure from the darria plant from their native Bazakistan.
This book continues to tell us of the turmoil going on with Kat as she tries to return to making vodka which runs through her blood and how she suspects everyone is working against her. Will things ever turn around for Kat? Will she ever be able to trust anyone again? It doesn't help that she's receiving threatening letters through the mail. Who is sending them?
The story isn't as action packed as previous books but it's nice to learn more about what's going on in the characters lives and there is some action laced throughout the story based around the crime family of Shaun Halloran, who is languishing in prison thanks to Kat in The Bride's Trail.
The fourth book in the series is called The Revenge Trail, which makes me wonder who's getting their revenge on who? I'm looking forward to finding out.
The book moves between Kat and her vodka still, Marty and his darria empire (well, allotment but he has aspirations), Erik and his research and the prison, with Shaun and his cell mate (a shamed MP).
The book is fast paced, jumping between the characters locations, priorities and issues with short and to the point chapters that keep you turning pages.
I would recommend reading all three books in sequence as this book (and to an extent the end of book 2) give away some of the mysteries set up in book one and the early parts of book two. However, this is not a hardship as it has been a thoroughly enjoyable read so far!
