Grape Expectations certainly lives up to its title.
I think I have ready virtually all of the "escape to France" tales and this is certainly amongst the very best.
A sense of honesty shines through and the challenges and difficulties of following one's dream are fully shown, drawing the reader in as you will Caro and the family to be successful.

We also learn a lot about the processes of wine making and settling in to a new culture and way of life. It is though the character of Caro that shines through.

I look forward to both sampling the wine and and savouring the next episode in the family's ongoing adventure.

I decided to begin the research for my next novel with 'Grape Expectations', without any particular expectations of my own. Research can be a grey experience at times.

This one was delightful though. I loved the writing style and candour, notwithstanding the compelling story. So much so, that I plan to stay there as soon as I can.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this heartfelt tale of a brave family who followed their dream to become organic viticulteurs and who overcame difficulties with incomprehensible bureaucracy, a lifestyle change and a steep learning curve coping with a dilapidated building, overgrown terrain and savage machinery-and all while not speaking much French initially.
Visit Haut Garrigue if you live nearby [or even if you make a special journey] and toast the Feely's success in some lovely wine. A well-written book for lovers of France and lovers of good wine that inspired me to visit them.

There 's a lot of wine in this book... I think it would have helped to have had an interest in wine production and not just drinking it to have really enjoyed this book at its best. To be honest from the way it started i thought it was going to be more about moving to France and setting up life there and all the ins and outs of wine production. I did find it a bit boring in places but I did finish it . Not one Id recommend .
