I can imagine that this seemed a fascinating subject but it reality there is little written history on Granuaile. What we have is a heavily padded book in large type that would have been better as a pamphlet. Feels like the Ladybird Book of Irish History.

This was a useful little book for finding out the basics of who Granuaile was and what she did. It's well researched. However I didn't realise when I bought it that it was a kid's book so the information is quite simplistic. It's still an interesting read and a great introduction but may not be what you're looking for if you're after something more indepth.

I purchased this on impulse having read several pirate books in the past.
It is a quick read, only an hour or 2, and a good page turner. As well as a good factual history of her life, the book was a brief but interesting insight into life at the time and the history and politics of Ireland between 1500 and 1600. It is an impressive story, the sort that Disney will probably make a movie on in the future.
If there was any negatives, it was the illustrations which were a little dull.

I heard this is a very good book, but I was expecting deeper information. It is more like tale (although very good introduction if you do not know anything about Granuile)

It might be fictional but - and here's the nub, Women were never part of Irish history then or before or quite frankly afterwards either - and not much into modern times either.

Very good read.
