I do a lot of walking and have always used Nikwax because that's what the first people I spoke to many years ago recommended. After reading reviews on Amazon I bought this Grangers 2 in 1 and am very impressed. It says on the bottle you need to tumble dry but I just dried my stuff on a washing line then put my jacket and trousers over a radiator to complete the finish. Raindrops now stay on the surface and run off my garments rather than soaking-in. When I next went walking and spoke to friends nearly all of them said "oh yes we use Grangers, it's great". Better late than never I suppose!

Impressed. Did wonders for my Montane wind-cheater, bestowing a degree of water repellancy I didn't think it had (or could have). Apparently heat triggers part of the process (either a tumble drier or iron) but check the label on your garment. Will buy again.

I've looked at various re-proofing products and chose the Grangers 2 in 1 because of the convenience of an 'all in one product', positive reviews from others and a very competitive price. I've proofed a very old Berghaus coat, a pair of trekking trousers and a three year old Berghaus coat. I did though follow others suggestions and thoroughly cleaned the dispenser of my washing machine to get rid of all detergent residue and I also ran a rinse programme with the machine empty. OK so now the results. The old Beghaus performed reasonably well in bad weather but wasn't made totally waterproof, particularly the arms and sleeves. I suspect that years of machine washing in detergent was the cause. However, the trousers, which had never been waterproofed before and the newer Berghaus performed outstandingly. So this product really works. I also checked prices of the Grangers at local specialist outdoor clothing shops. From Amazon it cost £6.00 with free delivery. None of my local retailers sold it for less than £9.00. So a great result all round.

oh and works fine if you stick the garment on radiator - I don't have a tumble dryer so was a little concerned

I think something that people miss out when using this product is to clean your washing machine first. Because this product will not work as well if your washing machine has fabric softer and detergent in it.

To clean your washing machine you simple add two cups of white vinegar to the drum of your washing machine and put on full cycle.

Also remember to take the dispenser tray out, clean it and inside the dispenser tray where it came out.

Put item in washing machine with two cap full in tray.

Put on fast wash at 40c

Put in dryer on cupboard setting

Don't take the item out of dryer until it feels really hot.

Put a section of item over sink and put some water on the item.

If the water rolls off item and sits on the surface.

It is waterproof

This was easy to use and has been very effective. We proofed a Berghaus Goretex jacket and a Quechua breathable jacket at the same time. You just put the right amount of fluid in the washing machine with the items, follow the instructions on the bottle regarding temperature. This effectively cleaned the garments and then you run them in a tumble drier, which activates the proofing function. The effect is that the rain water forms droplets and runs off the garment rather than wetting out. This keeps the fabric breathing and prevents condensation inside. Recommended.

Following a weekend in Snowdonia where I got thoroughly drenched, I though it was time to re-proof my coat, as it was no longer repelling water but more soaking it up (Berghaus Blencathra AQ2).

Put two capfuls in the washing machine on a 30 deg wash and rinse cycle (did an empty rinse beforehand and cleaned out the tray to remove leftover detergent). Then tumble-dried until the coat was almost too hot to touch - which bakes on the fluorinated polymer that constitutes the DWR - and now water just beads and runs off brilliantly.

Absolutely brilliant liquid for washing and re-water proofing your clothes. It worked really well on two Regatta pack away macs and one Regatta raincoat. I can definitely recommend this product if you want to clean and re-proof your raincoats.
