The great shame about this disc--the one official live document of Gram Parsons' solo career--is that it focuses on songs from his first album, GP, while neglecting such fabulous material as '$1000 Wedding' and 'Brass Buttons'. That's minor criticism, however, as the sound quality is excellent and the between-song banter is humorous and revealing. Parsons has a great band with him, Emmylou Harris sings duet, and Parsons' own voice is beautifully ragged. Some of the tracks are better than the studio versions--hushed, transcendent takes of 'New Soft Shoe' and 'Love Hurts'. There's also a couple of curios--a fine version of the Byrds number 'Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man' and covers including Merle Haggard's 'California Cottonfields'. If you love the GP/Grievous Angel albums, this record is for you.

One of the greatest aspects of Gram's solo recordings was how well he blended his own voice with Emmylou Harris', and no other Parsons' recording highlights their combined talents as well as this cd. From a classic rendition of "Love Hurts" to "Country Baptizing" (where Harris sings the lead) the vocals are geniunely spellbinding; their work on "We'll Sweep out the Ashes" has an authenticity which surpasses the version on GP.
The band plays expertly behind them and are given the chance to stretch their legs as they rip through a full blooded "Six Days on the Road" and on the medley at the end of the record. On no other record were country and rock combined so effortlesly that you couldn't ever have imagined them being separated.
Some of the versions of Gram's studio tracks are particularly notable, brilliant pedal steel work gives "The New Soft Shoe" incredible poignancy, and "Streets of Baltimore" echoes with the Parsons' trademark memories of heartbreak.
Possibly the most amazing, however, is the twist given to the old Byrds number "Drug Store Truck Driving Man". The song loses it's sneering and adopts a more sombre tone, lending itself far better to Gram's phrasing and resigned vocal.
There are too many qualities to this record to allow each one of them to be mentioned, I have pored over Gram's recordings for some time, and this is probably the one I could not do without.
Gram Parsons live, it's never been better than this...

Recorded between the GP and Grevious Angel albums, the songs on the album are a mix of tracks from GP and covers. Whilst this doesn't include alot of my fave Gram tracks, the performances are great - the band sound like they're really enjoying themselves and the vocals are fabulous. I prefer this to GP.
Some of the patter gets a little irritating (although that's always a down side of live albums) but most of these interludes are pretty short, so I can live with that.

This cd brings to life Gram at the top of his game. Great gig, great set and good to hear the comments and craic in the studio. I bought this after reading the Meyer biography. Highly rated.

Amazing live session from Gram Emmylou and the Fallen Angels with some of the "new" GP album tracks played live superior to the studio album. At this silly price just get it!

This cd is just brilliant, the live perfomances are superior to the studio recordings, Gram and Emmylou have both got great voices which blend well together, such a shame he died so young as he had a lot to offer.
