This is life changing. I never knew what a fog I lived through until I cut out grains. The arthritis is in abeyance too. It is not easy to make these changes if you have followed a traditional diet, have cut out fat, controlled protein carefully and emphasised whole grains etc. I realised that I was addicted to the body feel of grains and starchy carbohydrates. Addicted. Coming off them has been hard. I am mostly there but not completely. When I fall off the wagon, I relish, want and crave the taste and feel of the very things that make me later feel awful. It is not an easy thing to do or an easy decision but I am glad I am conscious of what I need to do. This book is one of many that help. Any cook worth their salt gets over the american approach - so many of these type of books are for the american market that you just need to get over it.

Having encountered many people with autoimmune disorders during my medical career, I have often wondered why it occurs with the target sites so commonplace, often in a symmetrical pattern, whether skin or joints or in combination with blood problems. Viruses, bacteria, drugs and genetic factors have long been associated. Gluten has been known to cause inflammatory bowel disease (coeliac). Recent studies have implicated food as one of possible agents in the 'leaky gut' scenario as written by David Perlmutter, along with others.

This cookbook is a guide to a lifestyle that may improve these problems. The basics are laid out, foods to avoid and to indulge in. Recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus snacks are included. The low carbohydrate, high protein and essential fats are here in easy to assemble instructions. Serving portions are typically for four but are easily adaptable for less or more people. and storage with refrigeration details are given where appropriate. The author quotes Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, 'Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food'. This is an addition to the author's, 'The Grain Brain' in which he has put forward his basis for dietary modification to avoid and reduce potential complications of dietary inflammatory agents that may cause medical problems. Here, he provides a dietary suggestions that follow his guide for a more healthy living. Not a whim, but based on his knowledge and evidence. They have taste, nutrition, prevent hunger with weight loss and improvement in medical conditions the most important rewards.

I have not tried them all, nor do I intend to, but the principles I have with surprising results. Losing 10lbs in weight in two weeks was a kick-start and reinforcement.

The content of the book is great, and a fine compliment to Grain Brain. I bought the E book and would have liked to have links in the contents to quickly navigate to recipes. More pictures of recipes would have enhanced the book further.

Delicious recipes, relatively easy to make. The breakfast section is especially useful, as this is where cutting out grains is more challenging.

Super book on the dangers of modern factory farming as much as anything else.
People are simply not designed to cope with the rash of new products which are not tested to the standards of manufactured items for public safety.
