I might once have been sceptical about earbuds (or In Ear Monitors, IEMs, as the hi-end fraternity call them). Allowing for the law of dminishing returns they are not 10-times superior to a £36 pair of earbuds but they are ecellent! The treble is clear and detailed (a word like "detailed" really can't be applied to modest IEMs that come with portable players. These are a revelation). Instruments distinguish themselves FAR better, percussive and other instrumental "attack" articulations are in a league of their own; the stereo stage is spread evenly from side to side and the musical texture uncluttered. They are the least fatiguing to wear and to use for prolonged listening of any IEMs I have owned.

Three sizes of ear inserts are provided. They need a good fit to give their best, paramount to a) shut out extraneous noise and b) develop a good bass. The GR10s are slightly treble-biased. You still may need the Xbass on a portable player. I found that I need a different sized bud for each ear.

I have now tried the GR10s with a variety of music from Classial to Jazz to Popular including Stravinsky, Ravel, Bruckner, Lee Konitz, the MJQ, Oscar Peterson and various remastered popular titles.
They acquitted themselves brilliantly.

Ultimate question: would I send them back? No! You bet not.

A closing word. These IEMs have small filters to prevent wax getting to the innards. They come with a "manitenance kit". Should you need a replacement (in the UK) they are available from Grado.co.uk and instructions for maintenance are available on a pdf.

My sole in-ears up until the GR10's were Shure SE535 with custom made sleeves by acs. I still use these because they, as you would expect, fit like a glove, exclude practically all external noise and are well balanced (imho). On the other hand they can be time consuming to fit.

To the Grado's. I have to be honest and say that I didn't like the sound at the start but, fortunately, gave them a few days before return. In fact, I thought they were an expensive rip off.

Hallelujah!!! I love 'em. The GR10's were the end of my search for something a little more 'alive'. The sound is as clean as a whistle. Live performances are a dream.

The Shure's SE535's are still there but the GR10's are my current travelling companion.

Gradually became my earphones of choice for travelling.
The first non in the ear phones I have been able to settle for.
Noise isolation is not so great as the in ear devices but adequate.
I can't say anything about the sound other than I have five pairs of ear phones in this price bracket and up but after an initial period of rejection these gradually became the ones I use.

I am not a musical fidelity nerd, just an ordinary guy who has amassed a growing library of FLAC files in recent years and has been looking for a quality pair of headphones to do them justice.
Put simply, the Grados were breathtaking from the first moment. The clarity, balance separation and were extraordinary.
In comparison to my existing pair of high quality Sennheisers, the difference was huge.
You hear the Sennheisers, you simply do not hear the Grados at all, only the music.
They are recommended for anyone who has a decent enough body of music in high enough quality to appreciate the difference, 320 or better yet FLAC. On mp3, my limited time suggests that the 'wow' factor is just not there.
These are one expensive set of headphones, but they are the only ones you ever need to buy IMO

Best pair of balanced headphones I've bought. Wonderful clarity and as most of the other reviewers have highlighted, a natural sounding bass. Best in ear headphones I own (especially compared to the shure 535s)

However, would say that the headphones were expensive for what they are.
