I found this book difficult to put down from start to finish. The way the author captured the complexities of relationships during the war, made me laugh and cry. You really felt the hardships they went through and see a different side of the war to many other novels out there.

This is by far the WORST book I have read in a long time. The premise of the book is actually really interesting, and would have been an excellent novel, except that the author lacked the literary skill to bring the characters and narrative alive. The story centers around three girls during WWII who join the timber corps and get sent to Grizedale forest. Since I live in the Lake District, I found this interesting.

It is simply very poorly written, and since it had no references at the back of the book, it is extremely difficult to decide how much of what the author describes is true or not. The characters are all poorly visualised and cliched, the plot wooden and predictable, and the ending disappointing. Had I not been reading this for a book group, I would have given up about 20 pages in.

DO NOT read this book!!

I could not put this book down, the story is a little slow at times but do not let that put you off.
Set during the war it follows the lifes and loves of the girls
off the timber corp, from there training in cornwall to working in the lakedistrict with the german pows, what i liked was the way the charcters change and show there true colours as thay grow
and experance life.
Iwould have given 5 stars but the ending was a little bit disapointing.

I pruchased Gracie's Sin due to the book's setting. I have to say that I was very disappointed. The book started out well, but half way though the character completely changed. If I was not for the names I would not have recognize them. The ending of the book does not leave the me at all satisfy. A decent beginning, but that all.
