The time period is in the late 1700's and life is very harsh. Women have very say as to how their lives are lived. Men have the final word in everything. If the man in not around the women can not make major decisions until they return.
Life is very harsh in general, women dying during childbirth, children dying from things that are easily cured today. it is amazing that the human race survived this time period.
Some of the terminology use in the book is very different that what is used today. You may have to look up some of the words to understand the meaning but with the Kindle that is right at the touch of your hand. Using the terminology from that time period makes the book more realistic. I enjoyed to book even though I had to access the dictionary several times while reading the book. After a while you remember what the words mean.
One nice is that the books are reasonably priced. I got the first one as a freebie and the other two were 2.99. Not a bad deal for a great book series. I think this series may be one that I want to read again.
I thoroughly enjoy this book, it ties in with the first two books in the series. Book 4 (no title yet) is due out in November 2012. I can't wait to read it.
