Goth music is not a single genre, no doubt much to the disappointment of traditionalists. Cradle of Filth are not my cup of tea either, but neither do I begrudge them their place on this compilation, and I certainly wouldn't say that warrants a one star review. Goth music has moved on from it's dark-side-of-the-80s roots to embrace metal, EBM, folk, and other styles and this three disc anthology covers a good cross section. For me the inclusion of the likes of Skeletal Family, All about Eve and Christian Death makes up for the Cradle of Filth tracks - and to be honest, isn't that what iTunes playlists were made for?

This album serves as a great introduction to the more obscure cult hits in the Gothic genre.

I can see through other reviews that there are debates about what is and what is not Gothic music, I'd like to remind those reviewers that Gothic music has spread far and wide since the early 80's post-punk origins, often going into new wave, pop hits and even heavy metal in the past two decades.

I would not recommend this album to those beginning to explore Gothic rock, but rather to those who are well versed in their Banshees, Sisters and Bauhaus and are ready to delve into the lesser known cult classic bands such as Fields of the Nephilim, The Mission, Rosetta Stone, Christian Death etc. The album also gives a great showcase of the new directions Gothic music is being re-imagined.

As a reviewer looking for the obscure, I find this to be a fantastic compilation which has led me to more artists to add to my Gothic music collection.

I have ordered this CD twice now, I can't remember if it was from this supplier previously or another. But on BOTH occasions I received a double DVD, which was "Pom pom girls & My Chauffeur" Now both bar scans must be identical as it has happened TWICE, the first time I gave the DVD to someone who might have liked it, the 2nd time I just lobbed it in the cupboard to send off to "Music Magpie" where no doubt they will melt it down alongside Gary Glitter Etc CD's, to be made into Bic razor's or Biro pens. But to be honest I did NOT contact the supplier, as I was just a bit P'd off GRRRR :-(

Waste of money, most are not Goth songs at all, some punk, but most are just terrible. Dont waste your money unless you already know the songs. The company should be sued for misrepresentation!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Goth 10 Aug. 2006
By K. Ashforth - Published on Amazon.com

A disappointing colletion of mostly b-side tunes. Pretty In Pink as a goth anthem??? This set is NOT worth buying. I strongly recommend Goth Industrial Club Anthems released by Cleopatra instead.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing!!! 24 Feb. 2009

For starters, I only got the 3rd disk, and it pretty much sucks! The only song I kind of like is Pretty in Pink, but I like it better when The Grown-Ups sings. This is NOT goth! I would not recommend THE GOTH ANTHOLOGY!!!

This Compilation is a very resemblence of Goth II "04". It brings out the very essence of Goth. I liked it alot. Song number 4 is really good. Overall I would give it a 4out of 6 stars.
