A beautiful gilt-edged hardback volume of a thousand-plus pages whose quality befits the superlative content, the pure essence of Sri Ramakrishna's day-to-day discourses to his disciples during the 1880's, accounts replete with evocative, picturesque details of daily life in 19th century Bengal and Calcutta. The Paramahansa, this saintly Brahmin born in 1836 in the rustic village of Kamarpukur, had imbibed the nectar of Vedantic wisdom from his Saivite guru, had mastered all the sadhanas of the 64 Tantras under the tutelage of his female guru Bhairavi Brahmani and was a true master of the spiritual life, a great Shaktic devotee of Kali dwelling in the temple-complex of Dakshineshwar, a classic God-man and 'mad yogin' in the most ancient traditions of the Arya-Dharma - and yet the great gift of this hallowed Avatar, who was completely illiterate and had never learned to read or write, was his unparalleled ability to impart the most profound instruction and comprehensive ranges of esoteric insight with an exquisite simplicity, conveying the most brilliant expositions via simple, direct metaphors and charming rural teaching-tales. The spiritual 'perfume' of the Paramahansa's presence, his delicious humour and guileless child-like purity come across very clearly. The teachings of Sri Ramakrishna transmitted in the pages of these recorded conversations, providentially and accurately preserved by the faithful Mahendranath Gupta, a meritorious work for which he deserves the heart-felt gratitude of all serious seekers, open onto a veritable ocean of Divine Mercy.Read more ›

There is no introduction about Sri Ramakrishna. Who He was, is the seeker to decide. If one reads this book throughly, everything one needs to be aware when seeking into religious or spiritual matter shall be provided. Test guru-s as money changers test coins.
In the Age of fraud and deception, the spiritual seekers must be aware, first and foremost, how to distinguish genuine teachers and fake ones.
We have visited India for 4 times in the past, and traveled far and wide in India. Whatever written in this Gospel is true, and there is no blind-belief or dogmatic rigidity is contained.
We highly recommend to purchase this book, as always, Amazon offer the best price.

There is little need to add information about the content of this volume. I would, however, like to recommend this particular hardback edition as the one which students and readers of Sri Ramakrishna might wish to buy -- the production values are far superior to other editions, while the gold leaf on the page edges is a worthy indicator of the value of the contents, as well as helping to keep the pages clean when in regular usage.

Highly recommended.
