I was looking for an adventure book series for my seven year old son. We had just completed the excellent Mr Gum series and I wanted something for bedtime that would fire his imagination and hold his interest. I definitely found it here!

Charlie Small goes out to play and finds himself catapulted into an amazing adventure that spans many years and lands. Each book follows on from the last, with Gorilla City being the first. The books are written by Charlie Small, as he carries around a journal in his trusty explorer's kit. Charlie is continually trying to get home to his Mum, who thinks he is just out playing, but, each time he thinks he may be getting nearer, another adventure and obstacle lands in his lap.

Charlie comes across many different creatures and landscapes, which bring with them their own struggles, battles and also friendships.

Sometimes, some children's books can be a little uninteresting to parents who read them each night to their children. This is not the case with these books. My husband and I take turns to read to each of our two children each night, and I always make my son recap anything I have missed in Charlie's adventures as I don't want to miss out!

These stories are well written, well thought out, and include some amazing machines and inventions!

I would definitely recommend and look forward to reading these again to my younger son when he is old enough.

My granddaughter received this as a Christmas present and read it within two days, this in spite of being a television addict
