Firstly i'd like to say how impressed I am with the instruction manual the lay out is really well thought out it is with the 1st part of it all in English and the 2nd part in some sort of Asian language and on the front cover it shows a clear diagram looking down onto the quadcopter and another of the functions of the controllers.
This isn't too bad language wise it's pretty easy to read and all the way through it has print and diagrams to explain it easily and on page 8 of the manual you get a diagram showing you the direction of the props and problem solving guidelines and also a breakdown of the quadcopters parts and an accessory list on page 9.
Now on to the quadcopter itself, although it's classed as a mini quadcopter I think it's slightly larger than a mini with it being 13.80cm x 13.80cm x 5.00cm cm/5.43in x 5.43in x 1.97inches in size.
This quadcopter looks like something from the movie Total Recall as it looks very futuristic, It comes in a choice of 2 colours which are black with green striping and also black with the blue striping, there's also a Wi-Fi version of this quadcopter called the 515w however the version I'm reviewing is the NON-WiFi version, it has 2 white and 2 blue LED's inside the fan which are pretty bright.
It has 4 tri-bladed propellers inside a cage which protects them from crashes and mid air falls and 4 small legs with rubber dampeners so you don't have hard landings because trust me if your a beginner you probably will have one or two at some point, but this quadcopter is so robust it should be able to withstand even the hardest of them.
The controller/transmitter is different to your traditional transmitter as it feels a lot nicer ergonomically in your hands as it feels more like a games console controller which I really liked.
It has one key take off and landing and you also have an emergency stop function where you pull down on the control sticks and pull left and right this is a really nice feature and will probably come in useful at some point It says on Amazon that the camera on this quadcopter is 0.3mp but in all the reviews I've seen and read they all say that it's actually 2mp so I'm unsure of that and can't find anything in the manual to clarify this.
The photos and video are surprisingly good quality and the nice thing is that the lens can be adjusted by swivelling up and down for different angles of view. This quadcopter has the following functions: It has built in 6 axis gyro Height Holding, otherwise known as Altitude hold 3D rollover, Forward/backward, Headless Mode, One Key Taking Off, One Key Landing, Side ward flight, Speed up, Turn left/right, Up/down, It's the 1st semi-ducted fan/altitude hold quadcopter I've had and I must say it is surprisingly nice and easy to fly.
Once you get your quadcopter out of the box you'll notice your bag of accessories which includes your: 1 x Quadcopter 1 x Transmitter 1 x USB charging cable with balance charger 1 x Spare set of 4 tri-props 1 x Spare set of 4 Spare Propeller Guard 1 x 4GB TF otherwise known as Micro SD card 1 x card reader 1 x English Manual.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU DON'T GET A SCREWDRIVER WITH THIS QUADCOPTER LIKE YOU DO WITH OTHERS, BUT YOU WILL NEED ONE TO GET THE COVER OFF THE CONTROLLER/TRANSMITTER which takes 4 AAA batteries (NOT INCLUDED).
I only have one negative and that's about the type of Li-Po battery they've decided to use in this quadcopter, it's not a very common type of battery being a 7.4V 2S 350mAh 25C Li-Po battery.
You get a bag of spares that include 4 props,4 prop guards,charger,4GB microSD for the camera, the camera quality is really good for how small it is and the quad is really light with a 2s 350mah lipo.
For a 2s quad it is not as fast as i expected but it has a good flight time around 7-8 minutes that depends if you use the camera.
It is best to fly it in the house, with the prop guards and the auto shut of when you crash you can't go wrong, outdoor flights are great too but make sure it's not windy or you will have a hard time flying.
Flips are super fast and smooth,i doubt you will break anything if you do crash because this quad is very robust.
Charge times can be a bit long with the stock charging USB cable but that can be solved if you have a proper rc charger.
All in all it's a great quad for your kid or if you are wanting to learn how to fly.
For the controls I used 4xAAA batteries and then i was ready to fly. The controller is like a console and nicely ergonomic in the hand. You press the power on button and then up and down on the left stick to sync with the drone. In the instruction manual you can download an app to control a drone but that was for the 515W version and not this 515V drone. That being said, the controller is easy to use and preferable to a touchscreen smart phone. I love that this has a button to maintain altitude which is perfect for indoors to prevent you hitting things. When activated, there is a beeping from the controller. This can also be used to maintain altitude whilst using the camera to video or take pictures. This feature means you can concentrate on the direction rather than the altitude to create steadier images. There is also a landing and start button which makes this a great appeal.
This drone is compact and designed to protect its propellers compared with other drones where they are more exposed. The propellers are covered by guards, which means if you have a crash then it is difficult to damage them (I know this from several first hand experiences). This is fantastic since it isn’t always the easiest to master the controls when you are a beginner. That being said there are 4 spare propellers included. Underneath the drone are 2 blue and white LED lights which add to the cosmetic appeal. The size means you can fly it indoors as well as outdoors. Due to its size and lightweight, the drone can be difficult to control if there is a wind so you need to bear this in mind. Flight time averaged between 7-8 minutes.
The drone has a small low resolution 0.3MP camera with a 4Gb micro SD card included that comes with a USB micro SD card reader. Whilst this won’t provide the highest quality images, it is fun to see the results of your flight from the drone. This is often an extra you need to purchase on some drones.
This provides easy to read pictures and instructions on how to maximise the drone’s controls and adjust them. If you are a beginner then if offers simple explanations to follow which is lovely to find.
Overall, this is so much fun to play with indoors and outdoors. It has functions that can help beginners as well as give more advance users fun features such as 3D flips. I’m already showing this to my friends and they’ve asked where I got it. My partner says it’s a boy’s toy but I’d say if you like gadgets then this is definitely worth trying.
