For me the defining horror of the moral depravity of the Holocaust comes in the throwaway statement of an SS man who asks peevishly what the Jews had to complain about"...after all it's not as if we made them dig their own graves without the proper tools". This is what Speer meant when he talked about the "moral extinction" of the German people. This book is a horrifying resource against those who would refute the Holocaust.Read it.

Very hard to read and believe that this all really happened. Stark and factual book which aims to show the mentality of some of the perpetrators. Everything seems to be backed up with real documentation some from the murderers themselves. What amazes me the most is that the Nazi's did not think it was at all strange to write home to their wives with graphic descriptions of the atrocities they had just carried out.
The author has done well to report on the facts without introducing any emotion - not sure that I would be able to do that!

An excellent book....It was extremely harrowing to read the 'ease' with which certain people took to their 'work' and seemingly had no conscience regarding what they had done in their later years .:(

I have read a lot of books on this subject but this is the first where it is not the author is telling the story but the people that were there. It is so grafic that I am having nightmares and I am a seasoned reader on this subject

Not at all recommended. Considering this is a subject I have a great interest in, amazingly I gave up om it half way through. This book is more than hard work, it's something a book should never be, boring.

Scary reading, really brings home the horror of the holocaust and the actions (and lack of action) of those with responsibility.
