So, once you have them fitted, is it any good?
NO. The room is darker - I expected that.
You can certainly see in from outside - I wasn't worried about that.
BUT - it turned my window into a radiator, I could not believe the amount of heat radiating off the window.
I have removed the film and thrown it away
The film comes wrapped in rolls and is interleaved with paper. Trust me, you want this because once the film gets stuck together, you'll grind your teeth trying to undo the mess!
Prep & installation:
Read the instructions well. If you're lucky to have a fabric cutting board (with inch or cm lines), use it. Also, use plenty of water on the window, and on both sides of the film - you will be greatly rewarded.
You want to trim the film prior to applying to the window as accurately as possible, as it is not very easy to trim the film when it is affixed. Due to its thickness, it tends to fray along the edge when cut with an implement that is not super sharp.
Use fabric cutter to cut before applying and an Exacto knife to trim the pieces that need to be trimmed after affixing to the window.
Use the supplied tool to force out bubbles, from the centre out. I tried a window squeegee - not very useful. Always make sure the surface of the film is wet.
Summary:
Good bang for the buck (or quid). The first window takes about half an hour but the subsequent, with a bit of practice can be done quicker. Reduces the light throughput by about 25-30%. One thing to worry about is that it does absorb quite a lot of heat - so the "cooling" effect is yet to be seen. Will update as time progresses.
EDIT 26/08...
Still sticking in place, and still preventing the heat from entering the room. Elevating rating to 5 star.
Does the job I required & am very pleased with the product.
It does the trick perfectly of making it bearable heat-wise when the sun is blazing in and takes the glare off enough to not need blinds which is a real bonus.
I found it very easy to apply, just sprayed lots of water on both sides and allowed plenty of time and patience to squeegee it out (this tool is supplied), used a paper kitchen towel to mop up the excess and then cut it to size insitu to allow for accuracy. I found it useful to use a ruler as a guide when cutting it with a very sharp craft knife.
It is quite expensive for what it is but as it works I bought several rolls and also done other windows in the house :-)
