So I sat down and began reading suspecting that, like many other books I have examined before, I would soon place it back into its proper place on the shelf. Before I could do just that, I had already moved through the first two chapters and was anxious to move on. I was captivated by the way the material is presented since it depicts the incidents that occur in a Golfnosis seminar where golfers of different levels, from beginner to professional, attend these meetings with the hope of improving their game. The attendees’ expectations where that they were going to receive some kind of tips on how to improve their physical approach to the game such as how to improve on their strokes, maximize their swing, etc. But they were surprise to find out that their physical game was not what was deficient but rather their mental disposition coupled with their attitude were the limiting factors inhibiting the results of their game.
The book is packed with techniques to control your mind while staying calmed and focused (too many to list now). So what was in this book for me? I am a practicing martial artist and applying some of the techniques from this book has helped me in the art of Kung Fu San Soo. I have been able to improve my execution of self-defense techniques by controlling my emotions through self-hypnosis triggers that prompt my subconscious mind to take over in spur-of-the-moment /emergency situations. My body is now able to use what it has stored as muscle memory to execute techniques and attacks I have been practicing for years, without hesitation. I am now able to control my rational mind so that I do not over analyze everything I do, or over think what I have trained to execute as a natural reaction to dangerous situations. It is like developing a sixth sense with some confidence as a topping!
I have found that Golfnosis is a book that is helpful, inspirational, motivational, as well as transformational. The content applies to anything you put your energy into. Trust me. This is one book you want to add to your collection.

While not a golfer, I'm learning some fascinating things about how my sub-conscious and conscious mind interact with my body and physical coordination. A real eye opener is the realization that the conscious mind, with its carefully thought out processes, is MUCH slower at processing input and directing physical coordination than the sub-conscious mind. We've all had those instances of lightning fast reflexes where we caught something or dodged something before we even consciously recognized the danger. I can only imagine what would happen if I could consistently achieve that kind of speed and precision in my athletics!
The techniques the author presents in the book seem to offer some very practical, easy-to-learn methods for reducing the interference of mental blocks and letting your sub-conscious and your body work together to achieve that seemingly preternatural prowess we are so often wowed by in professional athletes.
I thought I was already mentally tough, but this book made me even more so! Doug Juola presents some very useful and easy to use techniques that helped me maintain mental focus during the most physically and mentally exhausting training I've been through.
Many people only focus on the physical aspect of training, not realizing that the mental side is just as important, if not more important. If you're looking to improve your perfomance in any type of physical activity, whether it be golf, martial arts, or military training, etc. Doug's book will help you immensely. It does matter whether you are already mentally strong or not; this book is a must read.
