Review

'To the amateur golfer, this book is priceless... you'd be insane not to read it.' --Hugh Grant

'Leslie King (founder of the Knightsbridge Golf School) made golf fun. What a great teacher he was - and a lovely human being.' --Bruce Forsyth

'Follow the contents of this book and not only will you become a better golfer but you will understand where you're going wrong.' --Vernon Kay

About the Author

Steve Gould and DJ Wilkinson have more than seventy years teaching experience between them. They both joined the school in the 1970s and studies under the legendary teacher Leslie King, a pioneer of golf swing instruction who founded the Knightsbridge Golf School in 1951. In 1989 Mr King handed the school down to them, and over the past twenty years they have polished his original teachings into a beautifully simple and effective swing model that can be learnt by anyone, regardless of age or ability.

got this book for Xmas and read it while the snow was keeping me off the course. For me there were too much celebrity name dropping and the tone was a bit self congratulatory. As for the golf swing it seems that the key points were - you cannot learn golf outdoors, don't roll your wrists on takeway, keep the clubface square through the ball (as if I had not worked that one out), practice swinging in ultra slow motion and get an expert to physically place you in the correct swing positions. Perhaps it is the last point that betrays why this book did not do it for me - a book can never place you in the correct positions the way that the authors can at their beloved school.

Unlike any other golf books, `Delusions of Golf', is a celebration of the enduring teaching methods of one golf professional, Leslie King, at the Knightsbridge Golf School in London. The authors worked with Leslie King from the 1970's, and inherited both the school and his teaching methods to which they are fully committed. The book is both anecdotal and instructional, well written and well illustrated. King is a clear link between theory and practice of an earlier age and the contemporary scene, and for the golfer steeped in the golfing past there is much of interest.
This is a book not necessarily for the successful, naturally talented golfer, although Knightsbridge has gained its enviable reputation through its connection with many very successful professional and amateur golfers, but it is a lifeline for the vast majority of golfers for whom the occasional good shot is the best they can hope for. The Knightsbridge School's tuition does require a single-minded commitment to build a sound, solid swing which will last a lifetime. Leslie King and Knightsbridge were not and are not interested in `quick fixes'!
Many thousands of golfers have gone through the door to the underground school and have emerged better golfers with a swing that works. Th book is not only full of invaluable instruction but also rlates very closely to the people who stayed the course, some of them household celebrities but many ordinary golfers whose prime concern was greater consistency and greater enjoyment.
If the opporunity arises to go to 47 Lowndes Square do not hesitate to pay them a visiy. In the meantime buy the book and enjoy reading about an exceptional facility in the heart of London

After reading The Golf Delusion I have got my hunger back for this beautiful game. I have read many golf books including The Swing Factory, Leadbetter and so on. None compete with Steve and Dave's latest masterpiece. After reading so many and finishing my lesson with my local pro frustrated and confused I now focus on one thing at a time and know I am making progress. This books makes it plain and simple and to the point with fantastic instruction. I recommend this for all levels as you will be amazed at the simple but effective detail inside to improve your game and take it to a higher level. Thank you Steve and Dave for turning my game around. I am already looking forward to your next one.

There is a lot of filling in this book and a few blatant adverts for the golf school, but it is an interesting and at times humorous read. Whether you can improve your game from reading this book is debatable: it is quite difficult to put onto paper the complex movements of golf, good and bad. But I would say that there is sound advice contained therein and if the reader is able to follow and practice the basic points then it might be a valuable exercise. I'm willing to give it a go anyway!

I could not put this book down, it's a fascinating read! I have a library of golf instructional books which teach you hardly anything, however I'm now on my 3rd read of The Golf Delusion and I'm learning something new every time. Masterpiece!!!

Most amateur golfers like me have devoured every Golf instruction book and every set of tips written in golf magazines ever written. Of course this is to no avail. The Golf Delusion is like no other golf book. As Steve and Dave say "we dont give tips, we build golf swings". Building upon the 50+ years of teaching skill developed by Mr Leslie King and his team of disciples, this book is for the golfer who is serious about improving his or her game. I have been a student at the Knightsbridge Golf School for over a year now. I now have a golf swing I believe in and a set of fundamentals I go back to in those awful moments in the middle of a round when the almost unbearable stress of the golf ball not doing what you want it to do takes hold. If you are serious about building a solid, reliable and repeatable golf swing, this is the book for you. After all, maintaining a golf business in one of the plushest parts of London for more than 50 years means these guys must be doing something right.

This book is an invaluable guide to building and maintaining your golf swing. It really does open your eyes to an understanding of the swing plane and the hand position throughout the swing and coming through into a full finish. In addition, one small chapter on the full pitch shot clarified instantly what I had been doing incorrectly in the past.
The book is also a fascinating insight into the history and workings of the golf school.
25 November - as an addition to my original review I must say that as I was recently on a day visit to London I did book myself two half hour slots with Steve Gould primarily to see if I was following the instruction correctly. Of course I was making mistakes but the instruction in the book being very simple if you read it thoroughly, will pay dividends. It was the best hour I have spent and meant I could return home knowing that I could now follow the instruction correctly. I would simply say, buy the book and read it carefully and follow everything slowly and regularly. It does work.
