Product Description

This Goldsource ST-500 Step-down and Step-up Voltage Converter is for use in the UK to power electrical equipment from the USA and vice versa. What it does is convert UK 220 - 240 volts to US 110 - 120 volts. The output is pure AC and the voltage converter can be used with all appliances rated 0 - 500W. This voltage converter will take US two pin and three pin plugs.

It can be used with everything with a rating of 500 Watts or below (although in practice it is a good idea to allow some margin for error). This would include just about everything from computers and Hi-fis to equipment such as dehumidifiers (check rating to be sure). This is a medium duty desktop voltage converter and it weighs just over 3.5KG.

Be careful with TVs. They often give a low wattage in the instructions and when the TV is running this wattage will be correct, but when TVs turn on they surge and this surge can be many times the running wattage. We recommend a converter of at least 500 Watts for use with TVs. Also do not use with heat producing items such as electric blankets, hair straighteners or hair dryers as these appliances also draw a much higher wattage than this unit can handle. It is a good choice for use with the Xbox 360, which draws just under 200 Watts at maximum.

Simply plug the voltage converter into a UK socket and plug the US plug into the voltage converter.

This converter is used primarily as a Step Down voltage converter and it comes with a UK 3 pin plug. However, these Goldsource converters are very versatile and have the ability to also be used as step up converters (to allow the use of UK equipment in the US). If you wish to do this, all you need to do is change the jumper switch at the back of the converter and fit an adapter to the power plug.

I bought this unit to power a 450 watt rice cooker sent to me from the United States. I knew I would need something that was capable of handling such a high wattage reliably, so I opted for this Goldsource converter.

Ever since my purchase, I have been very pleased! The converter handles the rice cooker brilliantly, even when the cooker needs to be left on all day to do a timed rice cook while I'm at work, or overnight to prepare an early-morning porridge breakfast. Despite its large size (compared to a low-wattage converter that plugs in at the receptacle), it fits neatly onto my kitchen counter. I especially appreciate the fact that, as well as its 110 V output (where the rice cooker is plugged in), there's an additional 220 V output so that you don't have to sacrifice the use of a receptacle.

When turning on the unit, there's an audible and tactile "clunk" to let you know it has powered on. The switch also illuminates to let you know it's converting power. Though it's working hard, the device doesn't seem to heat up, meaning I feel safe leaving it on while I'm out of the house all day.

Overall, an excellent device, perfectly fit for function!

It looks robust and is heavy, not a bad sign since the smaller other branded transformers appear to give users problems. Not wanting to risk damage to our appliance it was thought best to get a reliable unit that would not over heat or cause damage. This comes recommended in the feedback and we purchased the higher Wattage (£10 more) as precaution in case there was need to extend use with other items. An initial buzz with on switch that instantaneously disappears. A solid unit! HIghly recommended!

I bought a coffee machine in the US when I was on holiday which came with a free milk frother.
Due to the different voltage I couldn't use either so I researched how yo use it in the UK.
I saw this product and it is very well priced. The set up is simple and once I got over the uncertainty of it working or not I found it works perfectly. I can use my uk coffee machine as normal and I can use my US milk frother and have perfect lattes at home. I use the product at least 5 times a week and never have any issues.
Highly recommended if you need to step down the current on electrical devices

Reliable and easy to use product comes with useful advice sheet for those not familiar with electrical devices.
Used many times as step down for pretty powerful (450W ) USA kitchen device in overseas territory with UK standard style power supply I.e. 240V.
Solid well constructed device and comes with 3 fuses although I haven't needed to use the spares.
Seller also very helpful regarding product query. Full marks for both the item and the seller.

Very prompt service. Not the most aesthetic of devices but the instructions are clear and it works perfectly as described. Noise is very low. I bought it to enable me to run an imported US XBox 360 E.

Bought a kitchenaid from the U.S. by mistake and was going to be a fortune to send back. I looked at all reviews online and most recommended not using the 110v kitchenaid in the UK, however we bought this product and the kitchenaid has run perfect since, I would recommend, just make sure you choose the unit to have more Wattage capacity than the electrical item you are using.
