This is basically a combination of the two "Addictions" compilations of Palmer's output during his time at Island Records from 1974 - 1988, with the Power Station track taken off Disc 1, presumably due to Universal not coughing up the licencing fee to EMI for the use of that track.

It's a pretty good cross-section of Robert Palmer's Island career, from fuzzy, swampy "Sneaking Sally Thru The Alley" in 1974 to the mega-selling sharp-suited laydeez man of "Addicted to Love" in the mid-80s.

The CDs contain the same strange remixes that Addictions suffered from, so the complex African polyrhythms of "Woke Up Laughing" sound like he's singing one song to the tune of another when shorn of the innovative original backing, "Doctor Doctor" sounds like just anything from the mid-80s and "Looking for Clues" has the cut-up-and-resplice treatment. In all cases I'd have preferred the originals, but I guess that's what the original albums are there for.

Not bad at this price, and there are some excellent songs here. Good re-master, with no discernible compression applied to the master tapes, so full marks there.

Superb - such a diverse range of songs and musical styles. Can't stop listening to it!
Listening on headphones reveals Robert Palmer's creativity and playfulness with rhythms and sounds as well as his mellifluous voice.
Such a loss to music at too young an age.

There are tens of 'greatest Hits' type collections of Robert Palmer. e
Each has its merits and detractors.

Rather than go in to the minute details amy I give you some advice?

If you look at the tack listing and see the tracks you like on this two CD set buy it.

Pure and simple.
This is a good long CD set with some great Palmer music.

It goes with out saying if you like some of the tracks and are familiar with them them you are sure to enjoy the rest of this CD.

BUT dear reader I think you may just find that each track has that def something and you may find yourself wanting more?

I could suggest the following as a next step and a really cheap choice of great music.
Read the reviews a certain person seems to have hit the nail on the head with his review....Robert Palmer

Sure they may be some you don't like but CD players etc have a skip button.

The value here is wonderful. You can pick up this two CD set for under a fiver.

It's surprising when listening how many songs Robert palmer actually charted with! I'd liked him since around 77 when Best of Both Worlds was the best thing since sliced bread, but his collaborations with Gary Numan never got the recognition they deserved (I Dream Of Wires), and of course there's the utterly fantastic Johnny And Mary which everyone knows but they didn't all go out and buy it at the time. Alas he did begin to hit the ground running with Addicted To Love and others....
