Ok, this is very simple. I have a Barbour Border jacket which is in nice condition. It was just looking a but dry and of need of a re-proof. (all seemed a bit tongue in cheek considering Barbour perfomed this service for me only 21 months ago at the expense of £30 and lets face it, we have not had much in the way of rain - at least not where I live)
Anyhow, under recommendation from a friend who is also a Farrier, he told me about this product. I was a little unsure at first as Barbour refuse to accept that there is no other product as good as their's.

However, I simply cannot believe just how good this stuff is! Seriously!

So ... down to cases. What I did was the following. I laid my Border out on the ironing board then set about giving it a good brush. (This is to remove any mud and debris that could have occured.) Then I got a slightly wet sponge and wiped the whole jacket down then hung it up to dry. This seems to set the cotton well in preparation for the wax.
Ok, I then cut down both edges of a black bin liner and then laid it out over the ironing board to protect the cover from any excess wax. Think the Mrs would kicked my butt if she got any on her washing! Then I simply taped the bin liner in place pulling it taught.

So, with the garment done up (including front poppers. zips, pockets etc) I slipped the jacket over the ironing board so it was easy to rotate it round as I waxed it so to speak.
Right, forget paint brushes, cloths, sponges, rags etc to apply the wax. You don't need them and they can break up leaving flecks and fibres behind. What you are going to do is use your fingers. Yes ... your fingers! They are usually warm and seem to offer the perfect and most even application.

I've never rewaxed a jacket before but I gave this a try based on other reviews and am very pleased with the result. My old wax jacket leaked and was starting to look like a tramp's reject and my attempt to rejuvenate it with "spray on" wax last year had limited success - it helped the water resistance but looked still looked awful (patchy/dirty looking) and cost a small fortune compared with this large tub of wax.

The Gold Label wax arrived promptly and I applied it as recommended (with a cloth, without heating it first) and found it easy to apply and "work in" to the fabric. Two things struck me: it wasn't as messy to use as I expected and had very little odour at this point - more on this later. It took me quite a while though, this is no five minute job.

It's cold and wet outside so I hung it to "dry" in the bathroom (I have a large walk-in shower, almost a "wet room") which is both warm and well-ventilated, and applied local heat with a hair dryer as recommended. The smell of the evaporating wax solvent was not strong but quite nauseating in a confined space; I gave up on the hair dryer and left it overnight to dry naturally.

Next day the smell was gone and the coat looks great. Still looks worn of course (no "as new" nonsense) but who likes the look of new wax coats anyhow? Not me that's for sure. It certainly looks pretty good though (a tramp would definitely keep it!) and most importantly it's now properly waterproof again. I used only a small amount of way (perhaps a quarter of it) so I'll be able to rewax a few more times before I need another tub, making it quite a bargain especially compared with the expensive (and useless) spray wax I tried last year. Solid five stars from me, it's an excellent product.

... for the snow. My waxed jacket was losing its effectiveness, so I thought I'd better do something about it.

Application of the wax was easy, if somewhat time-consuming - I hadn't appreciated how much material there is in a jacket! I watched a couple of YouTube instructional videos beforehand, which suggested heating the tub, then applying the liquid wax with a brush - the instructions on the tub say "apply with a cloth", which is considerably more effort. I brushed the wax on liberally, then used a fan heater to ensure it was evenly spread, especially in the seams.

The continuing bad weather has given my handiwork a good test, and it's great getting home with dry shoulders again! I can recommend this wax - it works well at a good price.

Absolutely fab! Applied it on a warm sunny day in the garden after softening in the microwave; applied it with a 1" paint brush in gentle circular motion, the sun softened it further into the fabric; left my coat in a warm room for a couple of days for the wax to soak in and dry. My dried out Barbour Gamefair now looks like new and the big plus is ther'es so much left I could probably use it every year for the next 5 years :o) I'm really happy with this product. Gold Label were always were brillliant and thankfully still are.

I may be being a little harsh with the three stars, this product is great value when compared to Barbour Thorn Proof Dressing, somewhere around a third of the cost, the application is very much the same as the Barbour version, I heated the product in a pan of simmering water until it liquefied & then brushed it on to the jacket & then used a hairdryer to even every thing out, left to dry over night. All good so far, The finished, treated jacket did not in my opinion look as good or as pristine using this product as does using Barbour's own brand dressing.
