but then. The story stays with you long after you put it down. There is something really appalling about the circumstances that gave this tale a start and there is something awe-inspiring and utterly phenomenal about what happens next. Ciara O'Toole is nothing short of an amazonian figurehead for survival, rebuilding her life stone upon fallen stone, refusing to be diminished by a sequence of events that would unstitch anyone made of less.
So, I went back and re-read the book. And yes, it is there. When you look for it, you can hear traces of the sadness, the desperation, the repeated self-motivating assurances as this girl goes it alone in a strange town, isolated, abandoned but incapable of accepting defeat or wavering in her determination to transform her life according to her dream, however changed the context.....
I know Ciara, and was expecting bubbly. Instead, I think this is a book brimming with fizz, but also the book you need to press into the hand of any person, man or woman, who has had a radical aspiration torn from their grasp or a significant setback that made them wobble or fall.
Ciara is an exceptional woman and this book essentially is a recipe for resilience - and how to turn your limoni into limonata. Or, better still, limoncello
I absolutely recommend this book!
