Comedy starring Adam Sandler as Shecky Moscowitz, a waiter on a cruise liner who dreams of becoming the ship's comedian. When the liner's current comedian, Dickie Diamond (Scott LaRose), finds himself locked in the bathroom and the ship requires a new comedy act, Shecky is finally given his big chance. But with Panamanian mercenaries and assorted thugs and terrorists trying to board the liner, being the new king of cruise comedy might prove to be an uphill struggle.

The film, although supposed to be a comedy is not remotly funny making the film fustrating to watch as Sandlers films are usually funny. The low production value of the film make it look very cheap and although this doesn't always bother me in a film, in this case it does as there is nothing in the rest of the film to redeem it.
I am surprised I managed to watch the whole film, I guess I was just waiting for a laugh, sadly this did not arrive. I would imagine most people who have watched this film did not make it the whole way through.
To sum up DO NOT BUY OR EVEN WATCH THIS FILM - you have been warned.
The story has been explained in other reviews so i wont cover that here, instead i'll just hit you with the good stuff.↲
I first came across this nautical claptrap about 2002 when my housemate at the time, bought it at a car boot sale. As having already seen a few of Sandler's movies and found some of them to be quite good fun, we gave this a punt, despite its bargain bin cheapskate cover and even cheaper price, after all, how bad could it be right? Wrong! Very wrong! As bad is not an adequate discription for this cruiseship disaster. Its poorly made, ill conceived and most of all, its just NOT funny! In fact when some of the other reviewers have said this could be the worst film ever made, they're probably not far exagerating and believe me, ive seen a few bad ones. .Truth be told, it might've got really good after 32mins, as thats exactly how long it played, before we took it out of the dvd player and threw it into the naughty corner to await its fate the next time we did a charity shop run. So why 5 stars? Well, a couple of months later a workmate came round, and ensared by the Sandler trap, asked to borrow it. So i said nothing and lent it him (after all, what are friends for!), which resulted in much fun, as after watching (some of) it, he tried to give it me back, only for me to deny any responsibility of ownership by refusing to accept it and no sooner had he put it in my hand, than it reappered on his car backseat or in one of his coat pockets! This game of cat and mouse eventually ended when he sneakily wrapped the dvd up and handed it back to me disguised as a present! Although Going Overboard has changed hands many times in my social circle, i have still never seen all of it and infact, it was only the other day that i received a present only to open it and find Adam Sandler staring back at me! That's right, once again i found myself to be the proud owner of one Going Overboard dvd! Within less than 1hr though, i had rewrapped it and distributed this bad penny as a christmas present to a friend who hasn't seen it (i cunningly enquired!) . . Hohoho. How we laughed, i can see his face now, expectant eyes glowing at the sight of this unknown Adam Sandler film only to put it on and fall headlong into the Sandler trap! The gift that keeps on giving. . .
The acting, if indeed you can call it that, is awful. The jokes are dreadful and crude. It is totally unfunny and I can honestly say, it is probably in the top 3 worst films I have ever attempted to sit through ('Freddie Got Fingered' is also in my top 3 worst films and I'm sure if I thought long and hard back into my memory banks, I'd come up with the third).
Even if you are a HUGE fan of Adam Sandler, this film will not cut the mustard and you will be HUGELY disappointed. And I'm sure that this is one movie even Sandler himself would prefer to forget.
If I could give no stars at all I would. But I can't, so it gets one.
This film without any doubt is the worst film ever, there are some really bad films that you can laugh at they are so apauling, Going Overboard does not even deliver this. I love Adam Sandler and have a new found respect for him, as he managed to build up a great career, even after this abomination!
0/5 .. Adam Nattrass
The film does have some genuinely funny bits in to be fair that is why i have generously given it 2 stars, but nowhere near enough for it to even count as a film. i recommend borrowing a friends copy and only watching the bits which he recommends which will total less than a minute, which saves you watching the rest of the film (in effect you will have actually made tieme by doing this).
Do not waste your money on this, but buy any other of Sandler's films, ANY OTHER!
