Praise for Clare Dowling: 'Sparkling and witty...a great beach read (Irish Tatler)
Very warm, very funny...witty and refreshingly honest (Irish World)
What sets this apart is the quality of the writing. It is great fun, a great read (RTE)
Dowling has an adept touch for light and warm-hearted women's fiction. She has a likeable tone and warm, funny characters and is similar in style to Marian Keyes... wonderfully entertaining (Sunday Tribune)

Going it alone tells the story of the main character Millie who is more than desperate to have a baby and it not only shows her journey but also how this desire affects and completely controls her life. Millie is an instantly likeable character with a good sense of humour who you instantly feel for.
The main other character stories we are given is Mille's sister Oona who is having marriage and sex problems, their father who has to take care of his wife who develops early on dementia.
I think the reason why this novel works well is because of the extreme things that Millie is prepared to do for a baby and the fact that it is anything but simple. She drives away her husband Andrew with her crazy charts and on schedule sex so she heads to Spain for fertility treatment. Like any decent novel, another twist gets thrown into the mix and Millie meets Simon while in Spain who she instantly connects with, the big question remains will she give up her true love for a 15% chance of finally getting pregnant.
I will not spoil the outcome for future readers but it is worth a read to find out what happens to these well written charatcers.
I myself really enjoyed this novel, i found it funny, sad and romantic all at the same time and it kept me hooked till the very last time.
I would definitely reccomend to any reader as it is simply what I would call "a lovely story" .
The charaters are built up in such a way that you feel involved in their lives and the outcome of the future is never quite reveavled and always winds up making you want more.
This book shows the highs and lows of doing things for yourself and not needing anyone else but along the way realising that a little help never hurt anybody, but a tail of one womans quest for her ultimate dream.
I found the characters interesting and I was really curious to know the outcome of the story. I found that the author gave a balanced view of all of the pros and cons of "doing it alone" and of the difficulties would have to be confronted whatever the outcome.
I would recommend it.
