Justification
The Heart of the Gospel
In today's culture where tolerance is the new absolute, James White proclaims with passion the truth and centrality of the doctrine of justification by faith.
"Finally--a contemporary, exegetical, doctrinal, and able defense of the historic Protestant doctrine of justification by God's free grace by faith in Jesus Christ alone. This is the best book on justification since James Buchanan's mid-nineteenth-century classic. We need to teach this material to uor congregations."
--Dr. Joel R. Beeke, President, Professor of Systematic Theology and Homiletics Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary
"I lost sleep over this book! I simply couldn't put it down. James White writes the way an exegetically and theologically oriented pastor appreciates. This is no book for casual reading; there is solid meat throughout. An outstanding contribution in every sense of the words!"
--Dr. Jay E. Adams, Author, Competent to Counsel and Godliness Through Discipline
Once the core of the Reformation, the church today often ignores or misunderstands this foundational doctrine. White calls believers to a fresh appreciation of, understanding of, and dedication to the great doctrine of justification and then provides an exegesis of the key Scripture texts on this theme.

Well researched treaty on the one of fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith: how God justifies the wicked. Don't hesitate, buy it. If you like this book look online for Dr White's podcast/videocast called "Dividing Line".

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Presentation of the Gospel 19 April 2005

For those who want to understand the historic Protestant (and Biblical) understanding of justification this book should be the first place to start. White does an excellent job presenting the Gospel in its purity and wholeness without compromise. The structure of the book is well organized and easy to follow through. The first half of the book (pp. 17-123) deals with important themes related to the concept of justification. This includes topics like man's total depravity, sin, transgression, the meaning of justification, the reason for justification by faith alone, the grounds for our justification, and imputation of righteousness. The second half (pp. 125-374) is an exegetical defense of the historic Protestant understanding of justification. White goes over passages in Romans, Galatians, Ephesians, James, 2 Corinthians, and Titus. He makes a convincing and exegetically sound argument for the historic Protestant view of justification by faith alone. Though White gets very technical and detailed in his exegesis of these passages, even a layperson will have no trouble understanding what White is saying. Particularly valuable is his exegesis of James 2:14-26. Roman Catholics and pseudo-Protestants have often used this passage to attack the traditional Protestant understanding of justification by faith alone. However, White does an excellent job explaining what James REALLY meant to say in this passage (e.g., true faith is demonstrated before men by actions). This book is refreshing considering that in recent years the doctrine of justification by faith alone has not only been attacked by Roman Catholics, but also by those who claim to be evangelical Protestants! Yes, pseudo-Protestants are everywhere these days. This book, however, should set the record straight on what the Bible really teaches regarding justification. In fact, after reading this book one will realize that many groups who claim to be evangelical Protestants are actually NOT at all (e.g., Wesleyans, Holiness people, neo-Reformed groups, etc.). White has done the Body of Christ a great service by writing this book. This is an invaluable work that needs to be in every Christian bookshelf.

Thank you Dr. White for this wonderful presentation of the Doctrine of Justification by Faith. You will be tough pressed to find a clearer presentation of the true meaning of the Gospel of salvation in Christ alone. This book should be in ever preacher, elder, teacher, and believer's library.

Works righteousness is alive and well in the world and even the vast majority of professing "evangelicals" are losing touch with the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. This book is a cold splash of water to the face of those who have dozed off into the world of dead orthodoxy and carnal man centered efforts to atone for our sins.

A perfect reminder that the Gospel is "Good News" indeed!
5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Study of Justification Before a Holy God 19 July 2014

How does God justify us? Are we saved by the grace of God plus what we do? What role does works play in our justification before God? What does the cross mean to the New Testament disciple?

In this book, Dr. James White looks at the doctrine of justification. He examines what it means to be justified and how God justifies lost sinners who have broken His laws and have rebelled against Him. Dr. White points to the gospel as our only hope for justification. It is not through our works or the goodness of the Church but through Christ alone that we are justified. The focus of justification is not on us but on God. As Dr. Sproul wrote, "God saves us by Himself from Himself."

I do highly recommend this book. If you are studying the doctrine of salvation or what to know how we are justified before a holy God, this book is a must read. The Scriptures are clear that we are justified before God because of the work of the Lord Jesus (Romans 3:21-26; 5:1). Our justification is based not on what we do but upon the work of Christ (Hebrews 10:10, 14). In essence, Jesus is our justification.

James White has done his homework and has an incredible grasp of the scripture.. This work drives a stake in the Roman false doctrine of adding anything to faith to be justified. One of the most thorough and complete arguments made biblically for justification by faith alone i have ever read. I would recommend every catholic to read this slowly. Oh those evil Roman School men should have read this book while they were changing the Gospel in dark ages.It would have saved a lot of false papal decrees. In the words of Spurgeon " There can be no peace with Rome. I say war. To the knife with her."In the long war on the truth there has never been a greater enemy than the Roman Catholic church. White exegetes with the greatest precision. Good Job sir.

White spells out Justification in a manner which displays the great beauty and depth of this central Gospel doctrine. Even after years of being a Reformed Christian, this book, particularly the early chapters and the chapter on James, refreshed my soul and provided a balm to my mind.
