The head harness is very adjustable, both the strap that goes around the head and the one that goes over. The straps feature wavey stick pads to allow it to sit firmly on the head. With it fitted, you can jump up and down and the camera will sit firm. I was concerned that the mounting plate would prevent the camera from looking straight ahead, but it allows the camera to sit horizontal.
The quick clip is ideal, and can be used in a variety of ways, the reason I bought it was for use on a reversed baseball cap. You can mount it on the peak of a cap (it’s a little weighty though, but it may be okay for the session). The foam pad on the back of the clip gives comfort when wearing it, and it contours round slightly to sit flush on your head. It also could be clipped to belts/straps.
The remote also gives you the option to change the capture state (and other settings) of your GoPro's from video/loop to photo modes. Great if you are using GoPro Sessions which are always fiddly to configure. The biggest advantage is that you can start and stop recording capturing only of the content you want without having to have the camera's rolling all the time. This saves you having to trawl through vast amounts of unwanted video when editing, but more importantly saves space on your SD card and also extends the battery life of the power hungry GoPro's, which means you don't miss out on crucial action shots.
Step 1: scrape away old surf wax & Solvent clean. Abrade. Solvent clean. Keep the silicone paper on the 3m adhesive on the gopro mount. Dry fit to see the gaps at the sides where you need good adhesion to stop it peeling off ! (if you think just pressing hard to compress the foam adhesive on the gopro to account for a large gap is ok then you are kidding yourself)
Step 2: Apply some Epoxy or polyester ahesive around the circle perimeter. Press the mount down to spread out the adhesive and wipe the excess of the edges (don't put much adhesive on as you only need a bit on the edges to level the mount area). Allow this to cure. The mount will come away as still has the silicone paper on it. Now sand this to prep for bonding. Solvent wipe. Now you have a flat base to stick to all ready to go.
Step 3: Take of the silicone paper on the gopro mount and stick it to the flat base
I used some polyester UPOL car body filler on my polyester surf board and would use epoxy on an epoxy board. Stoked with the camera footage.
Dr Dan the composite man.
I also own the karma grip gimbal stabiliser so I had the ability to check the quality of footage from both.
I used the chest strap initially and the footage is pretty good. The only issue is that the camera will not angle back towards you very much. So if leaning forward, whilst skiing for example, you get a lot of ground in the shot.
I also had a rucksack mount for attaching the karma grip which gives good stability and footage, but it's a delicate thing and extreme sports such as skiing can put the grip in peril of being damaged so I'd probably use the chest strap in future for skiing and leave the gimbal at home.
I'd recommend this for activities where your torso is fairly upright, unless you like (or want) the ground in your shot.
Note: The image shows the camera inverted, I must say I have not tried this yet. Not sure if it gives inverted video or corrects itself like an iPhone. One to test out I think!
I would recommend this to anyone with a gopro. It is the cheapest accessory gopro make and arguably one of the most useful.
