Second problem is 4k-30fps comes out horrible and you’re much better off shooting in the 2.7k 50fps. It just looks so much better when watching back on a 4k tv. I’m not the world best camera man so did watch YouTube and read up how to get the best footage in 4k but I couldn’t. It just always felt stuttery.
But saying that I did get some great holiday footage in Siam park, and for the money was happy I got such a water friendly camera. Like I said the footage when In 2.7k mode does come out so great for a camera in this price range.
They have now released the hero 6 so I’m looking forward to see how much improved it is. I’d buy go pro again.
One year later I was using it while snorkeling (all doors closed and fully sealed properly), and after a few minutes being used maybe 1m deep it gave an overheating message and shut down. I saw bubbles near a speaker but didn't think anything of it. It got this message a few more times when I turned it on again, then never turned on again. After getting out the water and opening it up it seemed to have leaked somehow (just a tiny amount of water, but just seemed to be on the side of the battery - not actually touching any important parts as far as I could see). Nothing felt hot so not sure what the overheating warning was about. I dried it off, left it a few days and tried again but it didn't work. A month later, and trying to dry it in rice, it still seems dead.
After finally managing to contact GoPro and explaining my issue - they basically said as I'd used it in water before, it couldn't be a camera issue and basically blamed me for not closing it properly. I was going to lend it to someone so had checked it multiple times to make sure it was closed for when they borrowed it, so there was no way it was due to me not closing the doors properly. It was in the plastic housing attached to a floating mount, so no doors could be moved or opened - so obviously there was some sort of flaw with the camera. I was told water damage wasn't covered for this 'waterproof' camera, and that them investigating the issue or repairing it would be too expensive - so was left with a dead camera. I emailed them a few more times and they eventually offered a discount on another camera if I sent it back with proof of purchase, but this occurred in Bali and I needed one for work I was doing, so had already been forced to buy a replacement there.
Researching it more I've seen other people with the overheating and dying issue, and others having their camera leak (in the battery compartment or under the front screen). Other than the leaking it was a decent camera - however I do not trust that these GoPro's are fully waterproof anymore. I have since bought a third party dive housing for it (since the GoPro made one is expensive), and will not use this in water without it.
