For those who are interested in the subject matter, this book is a clear, well written and intelligent book that introduces the reader to ancient Gnosticism without any agenda. It also delves into modern day concepts of Gnosticism and how it relates to it's historical roots. I found the book fascinating, informative, and written in a clear objective voice.
Highly recommended.

This book is obviously intended as an introduction to the history and general concepts of gnosticism. I think it serves that purpose very well. Without being too brief or simplifying too much, it manages to give the reader - at least a complete novice like myself - a clearer picture of what gnosticism is in a very slim volume. I'm by no means an expert, just a historically interested person, but as far as I can tell Mr Gilbert's account is both balanced and well informed. An enjoyable read, too.

Excellent insight into the world of Gnosticism. The author approaches the study from an academic point of view but the book is still very readable.
