Review

It is so important to empower other women and that is exactly what this book does. It gives women practical advice to help them navigate their careers and, ultimately, design their own life. (Diane von Furstenberg)

For anyone looking to seriously understand why gender imbalance persists in the 21st century workplace (and what to do about it), this book is both revelatory and important. (David Abraham, CEO, Channel 4)

Fantastic to see a book with such practical experience and common sense at its heart - let's hope we won't have to talk about glass walls for very long (Martha Lane-Fox, Entrepreneur)

Practical, insightful and thoroughly enjoyable, this book is a must-read for anyone who wants to see change in their workplace and their life. An inspiring book that is sure to have a huge impact on women in the workplace. (Nicola Mendelsohn CBE, VP for EMEA, Facebook)

This is a rich report on what it is like right now in the complex world of men and women working together. Its specialty is that it allows you to find your own recipe for mastery of a meaningful work life (Charlotte Beers, Speaker, Author, former CEO Ogilvy Advertising and former Undersecretary of State)

I wish that this book had existed when I was starting out in my career; the advice is so useful, both for women on the way up and for businesses seeking to develop and retain talented women. I would encourage everyone to read it. (Karen Blackett OBE, Chairwoman, MediaCom UK)

Organisations thrive when women are well represented in management. The Glass Wall offers practical wisdom to deconstruct barriers; it's an excellent guide for managers and individuals alike. We can all relate to the material. (Eileen Naughton, VP & Managing Director, UK & Ireland, Google)

There's nothing lofty about this excellent book. It doesn't drone on about the inequity of it all. Instead, it proposes real things that real women (and real men) can do in the real business world so that women's currently untapped potential can be painlessly released - to the benefit of absolutely everyone. (Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO, WPP)

A new, no-nonsense guide to scaling the ranks (Times 2016-08-30)

I read this book in a day. It is now my work-place Bible. I wish I had read this book 15 years ago as I navigated myself through the challenges of working on a busy trading floor of various investment banks - a heavily male dominated environment. The case studies in the book are so thought provoking and at times moving as I recalled similar situations in the banking world.
Kathryn and Sue in their book will give you the tools and importantly the confidence to handle crucial situations in the work place in a professional manner which will pave the way for success.
I applaud the fact too that is it not just for women employees but is a book creating awareness for men and women employers. Their role is vital yet obvious - allowing these strategies to be put in place will create a better working environment for all and improve their business.
I now work for an organisation who promote gender diversity and social change. This book is a must read. It's fantastic.

I love that the advice in this book isn't about taking a higher road, it's more like entering the scrum and tackling gender-related obstacles to the ground... Which is probably more realistic and certainly more effective I would think!

An interesting and useful book - both inspiring and practical. It's also brilliant that you don't have to read it cover to cover - you pick the issue you're having/ facing into and access the relevant strategies and case studies, making the most of your time which is so important as a women with a career. This one will stay with me for a long time.

Very clear and practical commentary and guide. Wise but never pompous or preachy, and its findings can be applied in any work place, large or small. It is particularly good on the culture of companies and how they are shaped by the temperaments and personalities and prejudices of the people at the top. I have been urging every man I know to read it, and every woman should too.

Great book, easy to read, and full of real life case studies. Wish I'd had this a few years ago as I've been in many of the situations mentioned, but just didn't realise there was a different way to behave! Recommended for all women in the workplace, and the men too...

This is not about repeating what we already know about women in the workplace: less senior positions and less pay. This is about practical steps to take to promote more your work and get what you deserve. These practical steps are both applicable to men and women who have more feminine traits than masculine: competitiveness, individualism and self-promotion. The book also gives a guide to male managers on how to recognise feminine traits in their employees and deal with them.

I loved the book so much that I bought it for two girls in my team! Highly recommend
