What I found was an almost comical account of a bigot. It was difficult to find offence with this rather small book (It consists of about 134 pages) as the stereotypes are just so one dimensional they are frankly laughable. In short the Bosnian Muslims (Who are all Turks by the way) Live the life of kings, steal Christians lands whenever they see fit by either making up false debts that they have against them or false allegations of criminal offences, take Christian slaves at will, murder of Christians is not a criminal offence (and that includes a Christian who is the wife of a Muslim, presumably Islamic law is non existent in the Balkans or the author is either utterly ignorant of it or just intends to deliberately mislead the reader, I suspect the latter) Dogs roam the streets (So much so that you have to side step them (Thought dogs were unclean in Islam or is the author ignorant of that one too?) The dogs are fed by "Turks" Throwing dead animal carcases into the streets (As according to the author they see this as a blessing) Aside from the blindingly obvious that if they did so the country would be infested by plague within weeks and most of the population either sick or dead it just simply has no precedent in Islamic law or custom! Christians are not even able to walk the streets or go along a country road without knife wielding "Turks" preventing them from doing so (See murder of a Christian without fear of the law for that one) Austrians who flee the army and end up in Bosnia are immediately rendered slaves (You would have thought were this true they would have gone somewhere else by now) Even Christian travellers are made slaves should the locals feel like it.
The list is just far too endless. There are plenty of deliberately misleading travel books by Western writers on the Balkans but none is just so misleading its frankly laughable like this one. Just about the only redeeming feature of this book is that I didn't pay for it!
On reading this rubbish its no wonder the Balkans is an inter ethnic bloodbath.
