This album is great, and extremely entertaining. Mostly every song is a gem. Virtually every song on the album is credited to be written by Sheila E., yet when you hear the song "Strawberry Shortcake", it is obvious Prince composed that song, and it is not that hot either. But every other song is. Not only is "The Glamorous Life" a classic, but "The Belle of St. Mark" is not far behind. Sheila's voice is powerful in this song, and with Jill Jones being background vocalist, it's even better. An underrated song on this album is "Oliver's House." Yet, it is so funky, you can't resist listening to it. There are classic slow songs like "Noon Rendevous", which is perfect when you want to rest, and just relax. Another slow song is "Next Time Wipe The Lipstick Of Your Collar". The beat is so fresh, it sounds like the melody from a Disney film. As a bonus with buying the CD, after "The Glamorous Life", you get a club edit version of the same song which is entertaining to listen to as well. In 1984, the year Purple Rain came out, this was the best female artist Prince put together. And yes, Prince produced this album, as it says on the back cover, produced by Sheila E. and the Starr Company (A.K.A. Prince). Purchase this album, because it is fun, even for a party.

I love this album. I wasn't familiar with Sheila's music and ability, until I recently read a Prince Biography by Per Nilsen ( highly recommended to any Prince fan, like me ), where there was a period in the mid 80's where Sheila had a lot of input into Prince's music production. Out of curiosity I started to research Sheila's work, which is very impressive and subsequently ordered this album.

Well, I can tell you I was far from disappointed - I haven't stopped playing it for the last 2 months. Mainly for the Belle of St Mark, which I truly had never heard before. It's catchy, rythmical and her voice is distinctly loveable. A brilliant dance track - it should be revived as a dance classic. I find it comes into my head most days. (p.s. To anyone who's feeling a little low, put this track on, it definately gives that feel good factor and will put a smile on your face).

Noon rendevous, Oliver's house and The Glamourous luife, too, are excellent. 'Next time wipe the lipstick off your collar' is different to say the least, but the lyrics are fantastic.

I'm still waiting for Romance 1600 to arrive - look forward to hearing it if it's as good as this one.

Its basically a classic prince influenced pop record. looking at the cover I took years to check it out as it just looks too cheesy. But being a big prince fan I felt I had to. Its a really good pop record with lots of very typical prince synth parts, great hooks and the odd great line too. there are only 6 tracks and all are extended. this is not the sort of thing that would happen today is it. its so much better to have 6 good tunes and no filler, which this is.
