This is a 4.5 star, I would've given it 5 stars if it had been a little longer as the ending felt a little rushed.

I read an excerpt of this book on a blog then moments later wound up buying it immediately. The concept hooked me in the first place, a world where there is a shortage of women due to a deadly virus. All remaining women are given in a lottery to groups of six men at the age of 21 to ensure the continuation of the human race.

This book had the opportunity to be sleazy, however, it was far more interesting than that. The story follows one girl who reaches 21 and is given to the six men that won her in the lottery. As the story progresses the dynamics are complicated in the new family and everyone has opinions on the situation the human race is in.

I loved the book and couldn't put it down until I'd finished it. There were parts that I didn't expect which is always a bonus. The characters of the 6 are interesting as they develop and Krista is one tough girl.

Great book, will definitely look out foe more by this author

I'm speechless. I loved this story. The author throws you straight into the action, following Krista's life as she's given to six men who won her in the lotto. I won't say too much because of spoilers, but this story is emotional, fast paced, hotter than hell and completely addictive. I both hoped for and dreaded what happened in the end. Another fantastic book by Ms Monroe. I highly recommend to everyone

3.0 out of 5 stars Too rushed and cliche 22 July 2014
By laurach79 - Published on Amazon.com

For me this read was a 2.5 star.

The plot is good and it makes you think, the idea of a world where women are so scarce that they become the most prized possession, possession being the key word here, is utterly scary and unsettling but, once the protagonist meets her assigned 6 men, the story and its appeal just went downwards for me.

Everything in this story feels rushed and not quite finished up for me; even the steamy scenes felt rushed, kind of intense but too short; furthermore there were 2 big "jumps" on time in the storyline which contributed to that rushed feeling.

Kind of like if the author hadn't known what to do with the story at that point and decided to move forward a little. I hate the trend of dragging stories on forever with lots of useless info and descriptions in order to "build" a series from a story which should have been a stand alone book, but with this one story I feel exactly the opposite, it needed more in depth and the relationships between the characters should have been developed further... but from the beginning you kind of realize that the author is not really interested in this as she is really setted up in "defending" monogamy and it feels like if, in order to do so, she doesn't want (or know how to) give more in depth to the rest of characters (such a predictable ending by the way!)

Also all the cliched lines, feelings, angst... were just too much; the last pages were just over the top! I couldn't stop with the eye-rolling.

In spite of all of the above I'm given this book a 3 star rating because the plot was kind of original and it intrigued me (at least at the beginning) and the writting wasn't bad BUT I'm still sorry I've spent over 5$ in this book

4.0 out of 5 stars Great dystopian read 1 Jan. 2014
By WeeBeaks - Published on Amazon.com

Future dystopian novel where most of the females were wiped out with a deadly virus around 2020 or so? (Basing that on date given in the book and extrapolating.) The remaining females were raised in protection compounds until age 21, then "given" to a male group of 6 men in lottery fashion, with the government goal being to produce the next generation of females. Our heroine is Kristannie, and her placement and subsequent events.

With 7 primary characters really and a relatively short book, we didn't get to know everyone all that well, but what was there was interesting and insightful, with several interesting problems brought forth and discussed.

No spoilers here, but to say there is a HEA but not for every single character, and there are some surprises at the end for sure. I thought it was quite well done for length. I enjoyed the story a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will want to read this one... 4 Jan. 2014

I really enjoyed this book and the 7 main characters, as unfair as the world can seem they try to make it feel better when they don't really have any choices. I found myself shaking my head at times but there are some good laughs also. Interesting how different the author made each male and it fit and just made the story more interesting. Love the ending...

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad 5 Feb. 2013
By Kindle Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This is a pretty good story. For the most part it made me angry. Angry at the situation. Angry at the men. And even angry at Krista. I tried to imagine myself in each person's shoes and while I can see everyone's reasons for feeling the way they did, it just ticked me off! I was surprised at sudden change of events at the end though. I didn't see it coming. Well, the very end I did see but leading up to it was surprising.

5.0 out of 5 stars GIVEN by Ashlynn Monroe 12 Mar. 2013
By D. A. Isley - Published on Amazon.com

I was really caught off guard and surprised by Ashlynn Monroe's "Given." In the not too distant future, without given too much of the book away, women are very few and their place in society has diminished to being next on the men's menu of delightful treats. The Government has placed the women that are left in special housing (tent city) until they reach the age of 21; at which time, the women are placed in a lottery to be "GIVEN" to six men. Kristannie says it best; "you'll be raped every night . . . they won't call it rape, they'll call it repopulation." But as it turns out, Krista did not expect what awaited her. If you enjoy erotic romance, you will find this sexy piece of work very intriguing and hot. It is a very easy and enjoyable read. Ashlynn Monroe's pen knows how to drip ink onto sexy pages. Ashlynn Monroe has a new fan.
