What I like about this series is similar to my enjoyment of the Harry Bingham series featuring Fiona Griffiths. (If you've not read any of them, you're missing a treat,) in that the superior officers of both Max and Fiona realise that they are two intelligent, clever coppers and therefore the usual cliché of misunderstandings and unjust accusations of insubordination do not exist. Instead, the Force pulls together to solve the crimes with our hero/heroine leading the way.
I also like the way the authors of both series give us more insight into the background of the lead characters as the books are published.
As for the plot of Girl on Fire, it's almost irrelevant, such is the quality of the writing and the breakneck pace of the storyline. Buy it. It's great.
Therefore I was a bit sceptical when TP announced he was moving from manovels to crime and I had some trepidation ordering murder bag which obviously enjoyed but I didn’t know whether I actually liked the main character Max Wolfe.
I am now many books (and e-shorties) in and now feel like I know Max, Scout and Stan the dog personally. That is the power of Tony Parsons.
Girl on Fire can be read quite enjoyably as a great crime novel by itself but it is best as part of the Max Wolfe series because everything emotionally leads up to this.
This is a rollercoaster of emotions and TP does not like to have a standard approach to a normal ending. He is not content with the reader just smiling at the end.
I truly believe now (yet again) that he will not do better than this!
A real insight to police work and you really care about the family and other characters.
Feel as though I actually know them, see them on tv. Great story lines for the here and now. Can't wait for the last book.
