Product description

About the Author

I am the author of the Pajama series. The Girl in Black Pajamas is the second book in the series. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating from high school, I did a four year stint in the Middle East. When I returned to the States, I settled down in the Boston area and became a true Bostonian by collecting college degrees while raising my family. For more than twenty years, I did investigative work for Boston law firms. Being an avid mystery fan made me either fearless or foolhardy while working in rough neighborhoods and housing projects. I know how it feels to have a gun stuck to the back of my head…and that was in a courtroom. I know how it feels to have an angry client walk in my office and point a small gun at me saying, “I want my money!” That was when I opened my desk drawer, removed a large gun and drew back the slide while aiming it at him. “Have a seat!” I said. There is no substitute for experience. I live outside of Boston with my husband. We also have a place in Palm Beach where we escape to hide from the snow.

After reading book one, The Girl in White Pajamas, I couldn't wait to start on book two and started reading it the day after I finished book one! I wasn't disappointed. This story follows the same main characters, as we see how their lives are developing from book one. The McGruder family seem to be back on a more even keel than when we met them last time, and their lives seem much happier overall than when we previously met them. There are several other families vying for the Most Dysfunctional Family trophy though!

Although there are murders in this book, the focus is more on who is trying to bring down R&B Investigations. There are plenty of twists to follow and Isabella, Bogie's young daughter, takes on a starring role in everyone's lives. She reminds me a lot of my own daughter (though my daughter has never stabbed someone with a Bokken sword and doesn't have an IQ of over 200, but there are many other similarities!). There's also a large focus on the family life of the extended McGruder family, and there's plenty to investigate there too.

I enjoyed book one, but I enjoyed book two more. I was already familiar with many of the characters, which made the story easier to follow. Pop, who featured in the first book, plays a much bigger role this time, and he is a lovely, cuddly character with a wise head on his shoulders. It's easy to see how he's managed to hold Bogie together and guide him throughout the years.

I look forward to finding out what the future holds for the extended McGruder family and R&B Investigations.

Here we go again on another wild roller coaster ride with Bogie, Isabella, and the rest of them. If you are looking for a book with plenty of action, then this is the book for you. Believe me, you will not be disappointed. There are really 2 stories going on in this book at the same time, one with all of the mystery and attempted murders in Boston, and another with a sex scandal in Florida. Like it says above in the synopsis you better buckle your seat belt and hold on tight. It's going to be a wild ride if you decide to take this journey.

This is not for the feint of heart. There is some violence and sex, but I guess you already realized that from what I've already said. However, some people may have some problems with how Isabella, now 4 years old, is handled in this book. She is very precocious but she also gets in some situations that people will not care for. I have to admit that I didn't really care for how she was portrayed and did in some situations in this book. Maybe if she was a little bit older I wouldn't have cared as much. It just wasn't as believable at times, especially when I think of other 4 year olds.

Even with my reservations above, I really liked the book. I was drawn in from the very beginning, and could not put the book down. It is kind of like being charmed by a snake charmer. It is mesmerizing and you just can't stop looking even though you know it can be dangerous.

If you are worried about not having read the first book, don't. Yes, this is the second book in this series, but it can be read as a stand alone book. Chris Birdy does a good job of explaining anything that is referenced from the previous book.

I give this book 4 1/2 stars, only because I did have some problems with Isabella.

After first reading ‘The Girl in the White Pajamas’, I was more than ready to read about the characters as they continue their suspenseful and thrilling journey in the next installment – The Girl in the Black Pajamas. The author did not disappoint me at all with this new story. The author has done a bang-up job creating suspicious goings on for Bogie, Bailey, and their intelligent (almost frighteningly smart)four-year-old daughter Isabella. This story gets you pulled in with heartless crimes, murders, drama and a laugh or two. Oh! Lordy, there is plenty of drama. Of course, Bogie must again fix things, while keeping Isabella out of the midst of the trouble. Well… he tries to keep Isabella out of trouble! The question is …Can He? The Girl in the Black Pajamas will keep you hopping as you try to figure out the why and who-done-it!

Another excellent novel, which continues on from The Girl in White Pajamas, following our hero and heroine as they try to build there lives together.

The truly remarkable thing about the author script is the descriptive style of writing she uses that brings the characters to life and you can actually envisage them in your mind. Along side the descriptive notations is the traits and characteristics that are inside of everyone and with this humanization it makes for a enthralling read.

As one of Bogies employers is shot he is drawn to find out why and by whom. As the investigation takes him away from home his real battle begins in keeping his family together and close on his tail is someone who wants him dead.

In parts there is scenes of a sexual nature which are essential to the story line of one of the characters asking the question to what means would you go to survive.

Bogie's portrayal of his loyalty to his family and friends is the real story line and if you stand by your convictions and stay true to your ethos, those around you will come round to your way of thinking.and will make the bond stronger.

Another great page turner of a story which is full of twists and turns and suspense right to the end. It will make you think about your relationships with your close friends and family. Once you pick this book you you will not want to put it down, you will be disappointed when you finish it because it will leave you wanting more.
