Gerald was a tall giraffe Whose neck was long and slim, But his knees were awfully bandy And his legs were rather thin...Every year Gerald dreads the great Jungle Dance, and feels ashamed that he cannot tango and two-step with the rest of the jungle animals. But then one day he realises that it doesn't matter that he is different from everyone else--its just that he needs a different tune to dance to.
A lovely story, wittily illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees and told in rhyme by the award-winning author Giles Andreae, it has a stealth and humour that makes it perfect for reading aloud. Giraffes Can't Dance is a nifty little 1story that children and adults will love to read time and time again. (Ages 3 to 5 years) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

This is a lovely story that incorporates several dance forms including waltz, tango, Scottish reel amd rock n roll. I have also used the story to introduce infant classes to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and had them playing along with it (SAME Magazine)

I bought the Kindle version of this book and it has lovely bright colour pictures and tells the story of Gerald the giraffe who struggles to dance with the other animals in Africa at the annual jungle dance.
Sad and disillusioned, he ends up leaving the dance and heading home. Not long after, after looking at the moon and talking to a cricket he discovers that he actually can dance. While the cricket plays his violin, Gerald's dancing attracts all the other animals who come and watch him shuffle his hooves and somersault around. They all agree that he is the best dancer of all the animals, but this is only possible when he hears the music that he likes.
It is a sweet story and the illustrations capture the moments perfectly. It is written in a rhyming style, much like a poem.
Good for conversations with little ones too. Great illustrations throughout.
