I like this book. It has a good feel to it with an impressive variety of recipes with some good background information and a few well placed hints and tips. If a recipe requires a little more explanation, the book doesn't try to squeeze the recipe onto one page, it continues onto the next one as necessary. It has the recipe title in Italian at the top of the page, and in English in a slightly smaller font underneath. I appreciate that this book is to accompany a TV series so as such it's not just a standard recipe book, but one minor criticism is the inclusion of unnecessary photographs of Amalfi and Rome, with a couple of Gino D'Acampo also. Mostly of Amalfi and mostly double page photographs, these aren't really required, particularly as a fair few recipes don't come with accompanying photographs. I also think the chapter on sides and salads was mostly so straightforward that this wasn't necessary either. Generally though it's a very good book with some interesting recipes and good additional information.Read more ›

I have watched a few espisodes from Gino's TV series, but I am not an in depth watcher or follower (the series is very good though)
My requirements were pretty simple, a good vareity of "interesting" and exciting Italian dishes.

I am fairly competent at cooking, but like many lack the vision and style to really make my dishes shine, sticking to fairly simple ingredients and not really experimenting much. I do love Italian food and always have, so I decided to buy this to give me some ideas and try to take things to the "next level"

The book is very well presented with a nice selection of recipes covering a great variety of dishes from the expected pasta, to pizzas, fish dishes, salads, meat free, some breads too and a yummy selction of stunning deserts. There really is something here for everyone no matter what your particular taste in food is.

Instructions are clear and easy to follow, though as others have mentioned not all have photos, and yes there are some pages with the Gino photo shoot look too (I like photography so I don't mind) but it's an interesting book, that makes you want to be creative and is genuinely fun; and vary from very easy to a bit more advanced (again all skill levels will find something for them in here) Some of the dishes are genuinely impressive and sure to go down very well with guests or the family. The savoury pancakes with mushrooms, spinach and basil pesto are quite outstanding, and the Italian sausage is sensational.

As with all cook books there are ingredients that are basic and easily at hand, and some will require a bit of hunting down. As we know though you can improvise at times, so I wouldn't get too hung up on that.

This is the Gino book I have been waiting for, 100 recipes using a minimum of fuss and maximum of flavour that will have you spending many a happy hour in the kitchen as well as some great info on Italy and best of all that insight into what it was like for Gino growing up and life in Italy, its certainly on a par with the Two Greedy Italians books!

I love this book. The recipes use only a handful of ingredients compared to many other cookbooks and the food is wonderfully tasty. Used it to create a 3 course dinner for friends and family and it went down a treat. The simplicity of the recipes means you have time to enjoy your guests' company rather than being stuck in the kitchen.

What is so lovely about this book is that, for one thing, Gino is so passionate about the Italian food he loves so much. Most of the recipes in this book are so easy and what is even nicer is that they are simple to construct and most of the ingredients are to be found in an ordinary kitchen cupboard. The first thing to put one off trying a new recipe is having to go out and purchase ALL the ingredients, which has not happened for me. I have used this book over and over. Some lovely quick easy and very delicious meals to cook for the whole family. I am working my way through the whole book. Haven't made anything so far that has not been a complete success, both from the cooking and enjoyment of the dish.

I'm generally a terrible cook but can honestly say that these recipes are so simple and bursting with flavour that even I've impressed the family. A lot of the recipes use similar ingredients to each other so it's a cheap and easy way to cook, lots of colour and flavour, best cook book ever (and I've bought loads)
