Meanwhile, Cupid seems to be on sabbatical for Rory... until Dean (Jared Padalecki) and Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) come back into her life, that is. Episodes are: 'Ballrooms and Biscotti', 'The Lorelais' First Day at Yale', 'The Hobbit, the Sofa, and Digger Stiles', 'Chicken or Beef?', 'The Fundamental Things Apply', 'An Affair to Remember', 'The Festival of Living Art', 'Die, Jerk', 'Ted Koppel's Big Night Out', 'The Nanny and the Professor', 'In the Clamor and the Clangor', 'A Family Matter', 'Nag Hammadi Is Where They Found the Gnostic Gospel', 'The Incredible Sinking Lorelais', 'Scene in a Mall', 'The Reigning Lorelai', 'Girls in Bikinis, Boys Doin' the Twist', 'Tick, Tick, Tick, Boom!', 'Afterboom', 'Luke Can See Her Face', 'Last Week Fights, This Week Tights' and 'Raincoats and Recipes'.

Synopsis

Boola boola! Rory starts her first year at Yale. Moola moola! Lorelai finally opens the Dragonfly Inn, although it takes her last dime (and a loan from Luke). The Gilmore girls return for another scintillating, snappy-patter year of Gilmore Girls. Welcome, Gilmore groupies, to the fourth season of the series acclaimed for its agile balance of life and laughter. Oh yes, and love. Lorelai has a romantic fling with her father's new, younger partner, but ends the year with the guy every fan has known was right for her all along. For Rory, Cupid seems to be on sabbatical -- then Dean and Jess re-enter her life. Sookie gets a Davey, Lane gets a life, Kirk gets a girlfriend(!) and you get a 22-episode vacation in Stars Hollow, plus DVD Extras and a mint on the pillow.

Season four brings together quite a few of the plot lines that had been building in the first threee seasons; Rory has gone off to Yale, Lorelai finally gets her own inn, the grandparents manipulation starts to backfire, Luke and Lorelai...

The same great writing is there with all the whit that you've come to expect, though the storylines are now a little more serious as the characters have grown and developed. As Rory is now at Yale, it is split between there and Stars Hollow, so unfortunatley there is a little less of relaxed small town atmosphere that the show started off with.

If you enjoyed the first three seasons then this is an essential addition. Now, if only they would release the rest of the seasons!

I love the gilmore girls, it's funny, warming, and very comforting. I (an avid gilmore girls fan) want to buy this series on region 2 dvd, amazon dont have it, I cant find it anywhere that doesnt import it from the other side of the world, what I'd like to know is when it will become available on R2!!!
This is a fantastic proggramme and season 4 is where it all kicks off with Rory and Yale, and Lorelai and Luke, so is a definate MUST HAVE!

The fourth season of the Gilmore Girls is where it starts to go a tiny bit downhill for me as the issues become more complicated and Rory goes through belated puberty. More fights and annoyances, yet also some tear-jerking moments like the episode where Rory and Lorelai dont get to speak to each other for the whole episode and both end up in tears with Dean and Luke. Still a must-have for any collector and one that will be watched many times regardless as who can live without the Gilmore Girls?

I've seen the first 4 seasons of The Gilmore Girls so far, and if you're looking for true drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat then this is for you. Rory is finally torn once again between Dean and Jess while Lorelai finds the RIGHT man that we all knew about all along. The season ends with you screaming "COME ONNNN" at the screen for ending. It makes you laugh, cry and feel very awkward at times. Definitely worth watching, buying and sharing! BRILLIANT!!

Gilmore Girls is such a great show! If you appreciate fast-talking, witty scripts, family (mother-daughter) dramas and high school / university themed sitcoms, you'll probably like this show. Personally, I can't recommend it highly enough.

Plus, gotta love the "la la" music by Sam Phillips used throughout :)

I'm a late convert to Gilmore Girls. After loving creator Amy Sherman Palladino's new show Bunheads and the fabulous quick dialogue, I thought I'd try this, her most talked about but never previously watched by me show. Wow, what on earth was I thinking missing out! The writing is brilliant on this show - and I spotted Buffy maestro Jane Espenson was an executive producer this season, plus Jonathan himself, Danny Strong also appears. The show is smart and quick, and the little one liners that are slipped in are just a joy.
This fourth season was very enjoyable, with Rory off at Yale. The early episode when she struggles to cope was just so good - I had a bit of trouble getting used to being away at college myself initially, and I loved that it seemed so authentic. Mind you, Stars Hollow only seems to be 30mins or so down the road from Yale!

I must admit, I never liked Jess, so that is one reason I enjoyed season 4 a lot. To me the conflict he brought in Seasons 2 and 3 didn't add much to the show and Milo Ventimiglia does nothing for me! (He was equally charmless in Heroes!) Rory is largely a love-free zone, until a slightly shocking finale...!! Jess pops back for a couple of visits, but I always found that character charmless and unappealing, and definitely not good enough for our darling Rory!
We also had typically off the wall episodes like 'The Festival of Living Art' when the townsfolk recreate great works of art by dressing up and creating tableaux. It's crazy and looks surprisingly brilliant!
In Season 4, Lorelai and Sookie are renovating their inn (why is it an 'Inn'? Why not a hotel?) and this is an ongoing story, with Lorelai's money troubles and working with Sookie troubles! I must admit, Sookie is probably my least favourite character.

This season Luke finds some courage to be a little more open with Lorelai forcing her to finally admit her feelings for him. Did anyone else feel like as shy as Lorelai when she danced with Luke? She could barely him - I could barely look.

Jess doesn't express himself much and my heart went out to him when he poured his heart out to Rory.

This is probably my least favourite season except for the last episode, of course. Looking forward to season 5.

Looking for something that makes Dawson's Creek look like it's filmed in a war zone? You can do no better than the Gilmore Girls. Lauren Graham seems to be after Matt Perry's crown as most sarcastic person on tv and Alexis Bledel plays hot swot Rory to perfection. You want to escape what's bad in the world? I defy you not to enjoy this mother and daughter small town drama....

(to explain my rating....5 stars is reserved for the likes of Friends and The West Wing - 4 is for fantastic shows in the "just not quite life changing" category)
