The latest Intel 8 Series platform offers significant improvements in performance and power consumption with the latest 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors and Intel® Z87 chipsets. As well as a boost in overall productivity, the latest HD4600 Intel® processor graphics provide native 4K resolution playback over standard HDMI connectivity, with significantly higher frame rates in the latest DX11 3D game titles.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 5 Plus debuts on GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards, with a range of features and component choices that provide record-breaking performance, cool and efficient operation and extended motherboard lifespan.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 5 Plus motherboards feature new heatsink designs that offer uncompromisingly efficient cooling on key areas of the motherboard including the PWM area and chipset (PCH). GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards offer both passive, active and water cooling support of the crucial PWM area so even the most aggressive and extreme configurations will be kept well within optimal thermal parameters.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 5 Plus motherboards use industry-leading PWM controllers and PowIRstage™ ICs and from International Recifier®. These components are 100% digital, offering incredible precision in delivering power to your 4th Generation Intel® processor. Designed from the ground up to complement each other, these industry-leading PWM controllers and PowIRstage™ ICs from IR® are optimized for cool and efficient operation, allowing users to get the absolute maximum performance from their next PC build.

GIGABYTE motherboards feature GIGABYTE DualBIOS™, an exclusive technology from GIGABYTE that protects arguably one of your PC's most crucial components, the BIOS. GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ means that your motherboard has both a 'Main BIOS' and a 'Backup BIOS', making users protected from BIOS failure due to virus attack, hardware malfunction, improper OC settings or power failure during the update process.

GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 5 Plus motherboards offer more high speed connectivity than ever before, packing up to 10 USB 3.0 ports per board. Each of these 10 USB 3.0 ports are also provided with a dedicated fuse, ensuring that an unexpected malfunction on one port, will affect only that port, isolating potential damage and protecting other connected devices.

GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards integrate the absolute best quality solid state capacitors that are rated to perform at maximum efficiency for extended periods, even in extreme performance configurations. This provides peace of mind for end users who want to push their system hard, yet demand absolute reliability and stability. With ultra-low ESR no matter how high the CPU loading, these exclusive capacitors also come in customized jet black, exclusively on GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards.

I wanted to put a review here to balance out the other 3 star review. The board itself isn't bad and yes sometimes parts will be DOA. I'm currently using with an i7 4770k (have not tried overclocking yet but I will soon) with a gtx 770 and everything runs ok! The board has dual BIOS meaning that if you screw up the first BIOS in some way you can still recover the board with the second one. Additionally there is a 2 digit LED display on the board for POST diagnostics. If anything goes wrong during bootup a two digit/letter code (i think its most likely hex) will be displayed which you can look up in the motherboard manual. Note if you have booted up fine the display will say A0 which essentially means everything is ok.

All in all it's a good board, has reportedly good room for overclocking and personally i really like the blue and black colour scheme, though I do suggest people google actual technical reviews of this board (and comparisons with other boards before purchasing).

Bought for building my own PC. Beautiful motherboard with some great functions and connections. Has been running fine so far, easy to understand instructions and nice and easy to use BIOS interface. Good value for all the features offered.

Typical Gigabyte, looks good and works really well, a few nice to have features too, dual bias, error code read-out. So far the overclocking and bias flashing have been without issue, multiplier lifted to X42 and has never skipped a beat since, good solid performer.

When I ordered this, I was looking forward to my new build. But as soon as I had installed it and booted it up I had problems and continued to have problems for the next 3 weeks until I gave up and returned it to Amazon. Constantly giving me BSOD's, not recognising HDD's that was installed, not booting up - I had to reinstall Windows 7 at least 7-8 times etc etc. Despite installing the latest BIOS, the problems persisted and after 3 weeks of perseverance I'd had enough and requested a return to Amazon for a refund. I have reordered another board (different make) and have had no problems at all. This must have been a rogue board, because not everyone has had the same experience as I have. But if you order this board, just be prepared.

The kit I installed was:

IIntel Core i7 4770K Quad Core Retail CPU (Socket 1150, 3.50GHz, 8MB, Haswell, 84W, Intel Graphics, BX80646I74770K, 4th Generation Intel Core, Turbo Boost Technology 2.0)
Kingston KHX16C9P1K2/16 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM HyperX Plug and Play Memory Module (Kit of 2)
MSI Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 Gaming 4GB DDR5 Twin Frozer IV FAN PCI-E Graphics Card
Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Drive
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 CPU Cooler

Amazon have been excellent, accepted the return and refunded the money - even paid for the return. Can't fault the service.

I like this board however the LAN port does not like being connected via a switch. I had to purchase another PCIe LAN card to get the best out of it. I am running Windows 8.1 on it. I like the eSATA ports on the back.

I chose this motherboard as it was most suitable for a particular build and all the reviews that I could find were positive. The next time that I look for a product' I will remember to add the search term 'fault' to my query beforehand. The board is meant to be dual bios, but would continually reset and boot every few seconds - switching between bios 1 & 2. Resolved this by switching to single bios setting using the onboard switch The board would now POST, and I would hear 1 beep on startup. No error codes were displayed and startup activity was normal, however I could not obtain any display, either via HDMI or DVI. NO output could be obtained from an external graphics card either. Therefore I could not enter Bios and check any settings. Had the board checked out on another system and the same issue. Conclusion - board was D.O.A. and has been returned to Amazon for exchange. Digging deeper, I have found numerous reports of the same issues. Will try the replacement board but expectations not good. All assembly and handling was performed with good ESD control - 20 years + of assembling computer/embedded systems.

Dual BIOS is a must these days for any avid builder looking to get their "perfect" build up and running.

The main points about this board were simply the 1150 socket and the 15 micron gold plated CPU socket. I have always gone for dual BIOS just on the off chance if I fried or corrupted one I could fall back on the the other. The things I love about this mobo is the post diags and the ability to go in and easily overclock.

The only slightly negative thing about the board was it being shipped (new) with only 2 x SATA data cables, but I ended up buying red replacements anyway to keep the theme on the build.
