Product Description
GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards support the latest 4th Generation Intel® Core™ processors, bringing together a unique blend of features and technologies that offer the absolute ultimate platform for your next PC build. From high current capable digital power delivery, performance-enhancing caching technologies, exclusive high-end audio features, advanced networking and device charging, gold plated hardware connectors and of course, killer good looks, GIGABYTE 8 series motherboards are in a class of their own.
The latest Intel 8 Series platform offers significant improvements in performance and power consumption with the latest 4th generation Intel® Core™ processors and Intel® Z87 chipsets. As well as a boost in overall productivity, the latest HD4600 Intel® processor graphics provide native 4K resolution playback over standard HDMI connectivity, with significantly higher frame rates in the latest DX11 3D game titles.
GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ 4 Plus debuts on GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards, with a range of features and component choices that provide record-breaking performance, cool and efficient operation and extended motherboard lifespan.
GIGABYTE motherboards feature new heatsink designs that offer uncompromisingly efficient cooling on key areas of the motherboard including the PWM area and chipset (PCH). GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards offer both passive, active and water cooling support of the crucial PWM area so even the most aggressive and extreme configurations will be kept well within optimal thermal parameters.
GIGABYTE uses All Solid Caps (Capacitors) and Low RDS(on) MOSFETs which are rated to work at higher temperatures, providing up to 50,000* hour component lifespan.
GIGABYTE motherboards feature GIGABYTE DualBIOS™, an exclusive technology from GIGABYTE that protects arguably one of your PC's most crucial components, the BIOS. GIGABYTE DualBIOS™ means that your motherboard has both a 'Main BIOS' and a 'Backup BIOS', making users protected from BIOS failure due to virus attack, hardware malfunction, improper OC settings or power failure during the update process.
GIGABYTE 8 Series motherboards raise the bar in terms of protecting your system, providing advanced electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection for both your Ethernet LAN and USB ports, both common sources of ESD-related failures. Each LAN and USB port is paired with a dedicated protection filter that can withstand high electrostatic discharges, protecting your system from common electrical surges and even direct lighting strikes.

The bios is very user friendly and has a nice user interface that can be browsed with mouse as well as keyboard.
My only gripe with the board is lack of SLI support, but that's fine as I don't intend to use SLI, and I guess that is what makes this board cheaper than the Z87-UD3H etc.
The board is priced somewhere between entry level haswell boards and the Z87 boards, which is great as it offers almost all of the cool features that are available on the much higher priced boards, while still fitting in with a lower budget.
The sata and psu cable connectors are not handily placed facing the front of the case like they are on many of the Z87's, they are facing forward as on most older motherboards. This is hardly a gripe, as it is the regular standard for motherboards, however it would have been nice to see the connectors facing the case front to help out with wire management.
The board itself is sturdy and does not flex, however the screw placement is questionable, as the board has full ATX length, but not full ATX width, and can only be screwed in at the left (the I/O panel side) and about 1/3 inwards from the edge of the right hand side. This means that when plugging down your psu cables and sata cables the board visibly bends and warps as there is nothing actually supporting behind where you are pushing. It didn't damage my board, but it still concenred me when I was assembling. Bad design choice.
Other than that the board works flawlessly, it fast boots through bios (about 3 seconds), and works very well with my other components.
In short, this is a perfect buy if you are on a budget, but still want a high quality motherboard. It has Crossfire, but lacks SLI, so if you can live with that limitation then I see no reason to buy a more expensive Z87 board over this one.
I can say I'm not dissapointed, great board, well made, easy user manual, this with all my other PC parts: intel i7 4770k (not overclocked so still running at 3.5 GHz), Corsair Vengeance 8 GB 1600 MHz RAM, Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti (from Gigabyte), Samsung EVO 840 SSD, WD Black 1TB, Corsair CX500 PSU and a Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 case, there is yet to be a game that this PC can't run on max settings.
The only point I would make about this board is that an extra 1 or 2 fan plugs would have been nice as this only comes with 4, not only to allow for extra cooling but it means there are more possible places to plug in a fan, keeping cable management neat.
Otherwise can't complain at all and would say that I wouldn't want any more than this board offers :)
As the rig is destined for VMWare, and sadly I chose the 4770K chip, the default BIOS setting of DirecIO VT-d "enabled" causes ESXi 5.x to hang as it loads the VIO section. Not sure if another mobo would have the same problem and I dont have a non K chip (yet) to see if turning it off first would have helped.
I use this for my gaming PC and it's worked liek a darling.
As mentioned in feedback for other items that have gone in to this system, I don't benchmark, I put it all together, crank the settings up and play the game, if I find it all good, I'm happy.
I haven't had an issue yet, the BIOS allows for a lot of changed / boosting/ tweeks etc and I haven't used anything special. My CPU and RAM is set to it's default speed and I am happy with every game I play.
Would recommend this is a medium budget board, and vendor was spot on time.
Handeled my overclocks on cpu & gpu well.
The BIOS is nice too
