This book enables you to know what determination can do and where it can get you, that nothing is impossible if you really want to make it possible. Different plants bear fruit at different times in their lives. You as a 'farmer' just needs to be commited to obtaining those fruits. The time it takes may differ from another 'farmer' because he is cultivating other plants.
It manifests what power there is in having faith in the Lord as well, that he is one who does not fail as long as we trust. Being a Christian, this book rejuvenated my faith. Ben Carson was one who had faith. He was not a fanatic but yet believed in what the Lord could do. He did his best and let God do the rest! That's one message!
This book urges one on to do the best in what he sets his hands to. If you are not prepared to do something well, then why do it in the first place. Ben Carson's yearn to succeed in everything he set his hands to is evidence of this. He defied the odds -financial difficulties, racial discrimination at times etc.

Ben, although initially not a bright student was able to overcome all the racial abuse and discrimination that was around him. His mother did not for one day and i repeat not for one day say to him that you are being discriminated against at work or school but instead she encouraged him to keep reading and not give up the hard work.
I have learnt that this world does not belong to anybody. That having a fulfilling and rewarding career/life is your own decision. As far as you believe in God and are determined to succeed you will succeed. No human being black or white is God so we are all entitled and are capable of succeeding in any career that we want.
The question is what kind of person do we want to be and then ask what we need in order to get there. The next thing, is do everything that is required to get where we want to be no matter the obstacle that are in front of us.
I am sure that after reading this book, you will ask yourself why you did not try doing something that you really wanted to do in the past.
Have a good read.
I must not fail to use this opportunity to commend Ben's mother who layed the very first foundation for the children to get to where God had destined them to be. As a matter of fact, reading Ben's books inspires and motivates one to hardwork, confidence and trust in God.
Ben, I am very proud and blessed to have identified with you through your books.
Carson challenges the excuses many of us use to not motivate ourselves to better ourselves, excuses such as racism, coming from a poor family, not having all the same advantages, not being clever enough at school etc.. by showing us that with hard work, faith and determination nothing can hold us back apart from ourselves.
I would throughly recommend reading this book, as it will change your way of thinking and give you that kick up the bum we often need. Its such a great book that my mum who has a slight aversion to reading hasn't been able to put it down and has been inspired so much she has found a new zeal for her studying.
Great read, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not reading it.
