This is a terrific read. The first chapter draws you in; you want to know more about Walker and his journey. If like me you’re a reader of Fortean Times then you’ll appreciate all the strange characters he meets and the near supernatural experiences he has along the way. Plenty of well-written detail enables you to visualise each scene – this is definitely a book for those with vivid imaginations and open minds.
The quality of the writing had me rooting for Walker despite his dark and somewhat sordid past because you can see him changing as his journey progresses, becoming a kinder person and regretting some of those past deeds. Deeds that are just hinted at to start with and expanded as the story develops.
Highly recommended – a real page-turner that I found hard to put down. Or should that be page-SWIPER? !

What a brilliant story. I really recommend this book. A Gift of Serenity follows the journey of Charlie Walker, a man with a dark past.
His journey, on foot, follows him from London to Cornwall. But even though Walker is man to be disliked, I couldn't help but to be on his side.
This story has many twists and turns mixing reality with supernatural.
Many exciting supporting characters are shoehorned into this story which add to the plot.
At times A Gift of Serenity reminded me of a mix between Wicker Man and O Lucky Man!
Treat yourself to A Gift of Serenity. You won’t regret it.

This is one of the most charmingly odd and original books I have ever read. The characters that Charlie Walker encounters along his odd pilgrimage from London to the West Country range from weird to wonderful. Having been a visitor to Somerset, Devon and Cornwall since a child I was totally absorbed by the description of the places Charlie visited. I found myself walking alongside the lead character as he experienced extreme hardship as retribution for every misdemeanour he had committed in his evil life of business avarice. There is humour in this novel, but it is very dark at times, taking some readers perhaps, to places they'd rather not go, but are compelled to go, to see what is on the other side.
I cannot wait for Walker Book 2, but I guess I will have to. You can't make great books like this in the time it takes to read them.
