3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, Charming, but lacking citations 26 Mar. 2010
By Laura Knight-Jadczyk - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
I recently became interested in the topic of giants - an alleged ancient race of humanoids of gigantic stature (some claim them to have been 20 feet tall, but the average is about 10 to 12), superior intelligence and technology, and, apparently, worrisome appetites of the cannibalistic bent. (They were called "Nephilim" in the Bible). So, I've obtained a stack of books on the topic and this was the first one I read from the collection.

Norvill writes an entertaining story and brings together a wide range of data points (minimally referenced), and speculations that are certainly interesting, but it is maddening that there are no real citations and his bibliography is woefully short. His collection of data is interesting because of the way he follows the trail of the giants around the globe.

Probably of most interest is his thread about the Amorites of ancient Palestine that weaves through the book, as well as his speculations about gigantism in general and how it might be induced by environmental factors.

Another issue is his use of very questionable sources, such as Blavatsky and other occultists.

In spite of these flaws that make the book almost useless for research purposes, it is still, all in all, worth reading just for jump starting the thinking processes. He did mention a few authors and titles en passant that I will be following up, and I'll definitely be looking at the environmental growth factors if for no other reason than to increase the production of my garden!

I wouldn't pay a high price for this one unless you are a collector, but if you find a reasonable priced copy, go for it! You will be entertained and charmed by a pleasant writing style! And who knows, he may very well be right about many things.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, thought provoking and well-written 15 Feb. 2013
By Shana D - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This book is awesome. It's been over a month since I finished it yet the questions it has made me ask myself about our possible massive ancestors are still running through my head. Now that Norvill has pointed it out, it makes sense that a larger race of humans lived here thousands of years ago. Nevermind the pyramids with their massive stonage, even the Mayans seem to have built atop massive blocks that were put in place many years earlier. There's no way to date stone. Ray's book poses the most realistic answers to the questions about our unwritten history. It's a must read for sure.

One of the early writers/researchers who addressed the issue of antiquities’ giants from a global perspective. Norville's introduciton of Ley Lines and their connection with ancient giants has directly effected modern research of these lines and researchers such as Hugh Newman. A must read!
