This DVD is the first ever 'film album' fusing spoken word from extraordinary writers like Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, scientists, Indian Gurus, African Chiefs, pornstars, grave-diggers and all manner of inspiring artists and musicians from the 25 countries 1 Giant Leap visited. It began as an album project, bringing together stars from world music (Baaba Maal, Asha Bhosle) and mainstream pop/rock (Michael Stipe, Robbie W.) and creating music that would make these artists sound like never before - unmissably emotional and uplifting.
The DVD has 12 chapters, 12 short films, each one focusing on a huge life subject. The films are INSPIRATION, MONEY, SEX, CONFRONTATION, MASKS, DEATH, FAITH, BLASPHEMY, UNITY, HAPPY, TIME, and the blend of musical sessions (each one filmed in the artists village or home), the wisdom of the speakers and the stunning imagery is truly staggering. There is no FBI warning and no 'PLAY MOVIE' button, just a grid of words through which we navigate our own path.
Totally ahead of its time and perfect for right now - unmissable!

When I first saw this DVD I raved about it to all my friends.
This fantastic project is a collaboration of some of our best musicians, artists, thinkers, writers, philosophers etc. It will expand your mind, fill your heart and move you to tears of happiness and joy.
This wonderful project captures the beauty and riches of the human spirit through the medium of world music.
What these two guys have done (Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman) is so inspiring. Discs like this are what DVD is all about!! Having the CD is great but being able to **SEE** the musicians while they play adds a dimension and quality to the material which is completely unavaiable from the CD alone. Being a witness to how it was all done and the work these guys put into it. Its like your two best friends have been on a world trip and they made this video just for you.
From the moment the disc begins you realise you are being taken on a journey within as well as around the world. It will expand your mind and perhaps have you think about some familiar things in a whole new way. This disc is truly enriching. Buy it - you wont regret it! Enjoy!!
A BIG Thank you to Jamie, Duncan and all the performers! AWESOME!!

Given the blurb and factoring in the extremely powerful music on the original "1 Giant Leap" CD, this should have been a life-changing, tear-inducing film, that inspired its viewers to go out and change the world for the better. Unfortunately, it is not.
Made by two musicians, Jamie Catto and Duncan Bridgeman, who travelled the world sampling music, the film is divided into twelve chapters, each examining a particular issue facing the world at large today: war and sex are two of the most obvious examples. Footage of the pair's journey around the world is accompanied by the music they created and by shallow interviews with extremely minor celebrities that they met en route, on the topics in question.
I was expecting "1 Giant Leap" to be a living, breathing version of Yann Arthus-Bertrand's Earth From The Air photographs, a thought-provoking work with an understated agenda to make the world a better place. Instead, the film plays more like a series of home movies belonging to a minor celebrity who's just come back from a particularly long safari - which, in essence, is precisely what it is. The same production values have not been applied to the film as to the album; where Catto and Bridgeman successfully enhance and complement the ethnic music on the soundtrack, the opposite is true of the images, which are seemingly intercut at random, often badly synchronised to the sound, frequently irrelevant to the topic of discussion and occasionally repeated in other parts of the film. The images themselves are beautiful - sometimes profoundly so - but they just do not serve the overall purpose of the work.
The worst thing about "1 Giant Leap", though, is the selection of interviewees on display, some of which are obscure and some just plain inarticulate.
