Unlike the mostly tachikoma-themed "Be Human" album, this disc does for 2nd Gig what the first OST+ release did for Stand Alone Complex, in that it contains much of 2nd Gig's general background music. As one can expect from Yoko Kanno, it's uniformly well written and performed, complex, memorable, evocative and catchy, whatever your tastes. With pieces like "Ride On Technology" and "3Tops" it's jazzier than the more rock-flavoured first OST, but also contains much of the high-tech electronic ambient stuff that is the mainstay of the series, "Cyberbird" (THE music for web-surfing) and "Idoling" being magnificent examples. Full-length versions of opening theme "Rise" (an absolutely masterful piece, one of the best ever in anime music, for me just edging ahead of "Inner Universe" in quality), ending theme "Living Inside The Shell" and SAC's alternative opening theme, "Get9" (a very peculiar song, sort of future hiphop) are included, and "To Tell The Truth" is noteable for its typically Kanno mix of styles and instruments, from drums and synthesisers to solo piano.

There are some inexplicable tracks, though, also like the first disc; "Psychedelic Soul" and "What's It For" are english songs that, while broadly suitable in tone and style to the series' music, don't seem familiar at all and don't quite make the grade. "I Can't Be Cool" and "I Do" are similar, but better and sung in Italian, and I vaguely remember the emotive "I Can't Be Cool" as being featured in the series.

On the whole, though, it's a very stylistically varied album. While that's good in that it covers a lot of the series' music, it may work against it, as it means that while each track individually is very good, the mood changes markedly between tracks and thus the album as a whole has little cohesion.

This second of the three `Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex' soundtracks mostly covers music from the second gig. The album is a strange one as while there are probably less tracks on this album that I like, the ones I do like I enjoy far more than any of the tracks on either of the other albums. The album contains the following tracks:

01. Cyberbird
02. Rise (Second Gig opening theme)
03. Ride on Technology
04. Idoling
05. I Can't Be Cool
06. 3Tops
07. Gonna Rice
08. Get9
09. Go da Da
10. Psychedelic Soul
11. What's It For
12. Living Inside the Shell (Second Gig ending theme)
13. Pet Food
14. Security Off
15. To Tell the Truth
16. I Do
17. We Can't Be Cool

My favourite track on the soundtrack, and probably my favourite track from any of the `Stand Alone Complex' soundtracks, is `I Do' which is an absolutely beautiful piece of music that I would cause me to give this album a full five stars on its own. Other tracks I like on this disc are the opening and closing themes, which I prefer over the first season ones, and `I Can't be Cool'. My least favourite tracks on the soundtrack are probably `Get9' and `Security Off'.

The Ghost in the Shell stand alone complex O.S.T's are without a doubt the best soundtracks ever made. Each track is composed by Yoko Kano and each one is perfect. Each track is fantastic and you can listen to them again and again and they'll always move you.

This Soundtrack includes themes from both GITS SAC & GITS SAC 2nd GIG. Tracks such as "Rise" (Opening Title Theme), "Living Inside The Shell" (End Credits Theme) and "To Tell The Truth" are particularly good. All the tracks certainly do evoke various emotions, and encourage you to watch the entire series again. If you are a fan of the anime series of Ghost in The Shell then I recommend that you purchase this soundtrack.

Yoko Kanno really knows how to compose for a manga series, she's delivered nicely with this.
