Product Description

Product Description

Holed up in Iowa City for the coldest week of the year, Jeffrey Foucault teamed with blues guitar player and producer Bo Ramsey (Greg Brown, Lucinda Williams) to create Ghost Repeater, a country and blues album at the crossroads between love and lament, exploring the hopefulness of new love and the seasickness of contemporary American living. Ghost Repeaters are empty radio stations scattered around the USA to re-broadcast demographically tailored playlists, endless echoes of American market culture, from thousands of miles away. Epidemic sameness, big-box stores, and the retail news cycle of ghost prisoners and God On Our Side create the context in which the songs on Ghost Repeater unfold a story of love and uncertainty. Against the broadcast echoes of an America long gone, Foucault lays out the particulars of love in a country contending with its own ghost. In addition to Bo Ramsey's inimitable sound Foucault has the backing of Rick Cicalo and Steve Hayes (Greg Brown) on rhythm, along with special guest appearances by Iowa legend Dave Moore on harp and accordion, Eric Heywood (Son Volt, Richard Buckner) on pedal steel, and Kris Delmhorst on backing vocals.

Being a big fan of Jeffery's first two offerings, especially the majestic "Stripping Cane" I am happy to say that "Ghost Repeater" is also a fine album. Following on from Stripping Cane was always going to be a challenge, but by adding a country twinge to the album whilst still including the crisp poetry and imagery of the previous two he has created an excellent, well balanced collection of songs. Highlights include the haunting "I Dream an Old Lover" and "Appeline" which closes the album beautifully. If you havent bought Stripping Cane, I would get that first, but this is also well worth buying at the same time!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Foucualt with Full Band, Fuller Sound 30 Dec. 2011
By applewood - Published on Amazon.com

This recording (from December 2005) is richer, fuller and more consistent sounding than his previous one (the sparse but even more brilliant Stripping Cane). His songwriting is in top form here but he's also backed by a full band that includes the distinctive, haunting, moody and soulful electric guitar work of Bo Ramsey, and this is what makes it so special for me.

This is a must have if you already know you're a fan of Foucault, but it'll probably also appeal to any fans of the more general genre - excellent, authentic Mid-Western folk/blues/Americana.

Great piece of work. Ghost Repeater is as good as it gets. Foucault is an artist I only recently stumbled across. Glad I did. He has an album of John Prine covers that is also very good. Check him out.

I bought this CD after hearing Ghost Repeater from an indie, internet site ([...] Wild, Waste and Welter just blew me off my chair. I had to write this review. I thought song was Ryan Bingham; forgot about this guy (so many songs on that IPOD). Put on headphones on listen to this one.
