Why, I ask myself truely puzzled, are Robots In Disguise confined to the echos of the electro-indie movement? Why do we not hear about them frequently? With their catchy (rather generic)punk-pop beats sprinkled with a teaspoon on so of "edge" they hould surely have plently of commercial appeal.
That is, even without mentioning the lassiez-faire attitudes, style, charisma (and um...maybe famous tie ins) of the girls.
Regardless this album is burting with energy and plenty of fun. It looks liketime to get out the glitter and start doing robot dancing again!

This is a review for two albums: Get RID! (2006) and We're in the Music Biz (2007).

This review comes from an internet game. You buy an album you've never heard of from a shop. Then you write your impression of it before and after listening to it for the first time.

---BEFORE LISTENING TO IT---

WHY DID YOU SELECT THIS ONE? I know `Turn It Up' (the first track on Get RID!) as I bought it as a MP3 download from eMusic circa five years ago for 20p. I really like the song and it has a good number of plays on my iPod as it ends up on many different playlists. It has the same sort of plastic heart that Mini Viva's `Left My Heart in Tokyo' has.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE COVER?

Not too inspiring. The Get RID! cover is a photograph of their backs, with `Robot' written over their black jean covered arses. It does not suggest sophistication. As it's obviously a pop album I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

We're in the Music Biz has photo of the two girls screaming at the camera. On closer inspection their white blouses are not what they seem. They are topless (I assume the trousers are real) with blouses and ties painted onto their skin. It's maybe a bit better than the other cover, but it's still pretty poor. The painted skin reminds me of the rather weak cover art Those Dancing Days used on their album Daydreams and Nightmares.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC ARE YOU REALISTICALLY EXPECTING? Straightforward pop without pretentions to be much more than that. I expect synths to completely dominate with maybe only a few bits of guitar. Mostly up-tempo as I imagine their slower numbers might feel a bit contrived, as though they are ten year olds pretending to be older by slowing it down.

I have We're in the music biz, this and have seen them live. Well good.

As an aside, the NME voted Motorhead the worst band in the world. That was 38 years ago and they are still going strong. So a pox on your house NME!

I think of this as the Robots disco album. They started getting more shouty and shrill to my ear - the first album is more gentle and breathy, but I still recommend it! It's bouncy and poptastic electro. I detest their version of 'you really got me', but aside from that there are some great tunes on this. 'She's a colour scientist' is the stand out track for me - what can i say? It just makes me smile! 'Voodoo' has a filthy sound to it and makes me want to get up to some naughtiness, and 'Girl' makes me want to jump up and down (which I have been known to do while listening to this album!). 'La Nuit' and DJ's got a gun' are great little dance tunes.
