I thought the bottle opener being an external one would annoy me, but it grew on my rather quickly. It's solid, opens bottles and doubles as an extra secure way of attaching to keyrings or the likes.
Pliers are another good point here. Strong and sturdy with wire cutters built in. They also serve as excellent tweezers. Quite possibly better than the tweezers that you also get with this.
What is irking me right now however is just how hard it is to get the tools out. I've never been good at getting tools out with my nails and generally went to my teeth. That's not happening here. I pretty much need another tool (or keys in this case) just to pull the blighters out. Perhaps they will loosen over time.
Also, the file is kind of pathetic. less said about that, the better.
- Majority of tools (great knife/package opener/bottle opener/pliers)
- Looks attractive
- Great size
- Feels solid
I was torn between the Squirt and this and went with this as I like the design better and I wanted to try a Gerber. The steel isn't up to that of the Micra (which I own) and the blade doesn't come as sharp, or can become as sharp, as the Micra, which is very similar to the Squirt.
I can't contest to the outright strength of the tool, especially the pliers, but for light jobs it seem up to it.
Having had time to use this item I now have reservations. The first time I used the phillips/cross head attachment it snaped a corner off. I was not doing anything major, just tightening a small screw. This did not happen with my Leatherman! Metal of screw blade appears too brittle. Looks like you get what you pay for.
Update - Having used this tool for a few months, the scissors no longer work, the knife is relatively blunt and the file [all of about 1cm long] confirms my first impression that it is essentially useless. The pliers are OK, though the wire cutter is blunt, the screwdrivers are OK and the box cutter is really useful and still very sharp. I'd suggest that investing in a Leatherman Squirt would be a more cost effective purchase, albeit more expensive.
Literally just got it out of the packaging so I can't say anything about how well it copes with daily use.
It's just little disappointing considering it's a "new" item.
